Pros
Slaries at the national office ted to be higher than even some of the other "national" organizations based in Philadelphia.
Cons
Staff seem completely expendable. During my time at the national office, at least 7 people were "let go" for reasons that nobody understood and no questions were really permitted.
Advice to Senior Management
More feedback and leadership is necessary.
Pros
co workers are energetic and involved
valuable experience
community connections
work is worthwhile
work has purpose
Cons
lack of leadership with programs and no direction for growth
Advice to Senior Management
too few opportunities for training
Pros
Amazing staff - you are surrounded by brilliant, dedicated people.
Cons
So much more opportunity to work together to come up with better solutions, but the leadership team chooses not to include their management team in the decision making.
Advice to Senior Management
You hired well, make better use of their talents
Pros
You work alongside some of the most hardworking individuals in a collaborative environment and you see results! The mission of BBBS permeates throughout the building and beyond.
Cons
Rewarding their employees is at the bottom of the list. Very little pay and a terrible benefits package. Many overworked and under paid and under-appreciated employees leads to many unhappy people.
Advice to Senior Management
Continue to do the great work you do for the community but remember your employees
Pros
It is a great organization where you really feel you are making a difference. It is very rewarding to see the results of your work everyday.
Cons
There is not much opportunity for advancement. The pay is not as good as some other non-profit opportunities.
Advice to Senior Management
Make sure you are constantly rewarding the employees any way possible for hard work (e.g. small tokens of recognition, public praise, etc.)
Pros
Helping others and working with some great staff members that really care about their community.
Cons
The main priority seems to be raising funds and staff turnover and unhappiness was not a concern to management.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep in mind what the mission of BBBS is!
Pros
A feeling of accomplishment, and satisfaction knowing our work helps the community become stronger through citizens participating in helping each other. Mentoring youngsters is a rewarding experience for the volunteer and can be life changing for mentee. Our office is one where there is mutual respect for co-workers and we work well together. We all give our best and enjoy our jobs. This is a well run office where if you have a suggestion, it's well recieved and put into practice with credit given to the originator. It's a casual yet professiona atmosphere and I enjoy being there.
Cons
The non-profit pay. And the dental insurance could be better.
Advice to Senior Management
None that I can think of right away.
Pros
Working with the mentors and mentees is one of the most rewarding experiences you can have. The jobs are clearly defined and depending on the management you have training can be thorough.
Cons
The amount paid to employees is not enough to make a living wage. There is a high rate of turn over so it makes it tough on the loyal employees who consistently have to pick up the slack.
Advice to Senior Management
Turn over might be less if salary's were higher. Over all good management though.
