I have been working at Big Lots part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Great Company have had a lot of fun learning the retail side of this industry

    Cons

They were tight on giving hours to employees

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you want to retain great help give hours to the one's that are down in the trenches at the store level. You will find out that you will attract more seasoned people that will have your stores back and will give 110% to the store.

I worked at Big Lots part-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Good discount; good opportunities for advancement; pretty good pay. The people were lovely to work with and the hours were flexible. It is a good job for a high school or college student.

    Cons

The management can be terrible, depending on what store you work in. There is lots of miscommunication, failure to perform, and not much of an atmosphere for complaining to upper management about the midlevel managers. Sometimes the policies would seem absurd: they'd fire you for being tardy 3 times (or something like that) but an employee hitting (sexually harassing) on an employee would just be moved to working a different shift.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Better training for management; better screen process for hiring managers; better open door policy for filling complaints.

I have been working at Big Lots part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

We are very close knit team, my supervisors are very caring and understanding with their employes in all situations.

    Cons

To me there aren't any cons except for the salary which should be more then what it is.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I feel the management should team up people on certain projects so it gets done quicker.
