I have been working at Big Lots full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Pay is decent, work load is demanding but rewarding, varying customer relations, learn something new just about daily

    Cons

The ONLY con: FAVORITISM, I've been in retail for 20yrs now and this is the most awful thing to have to deal with.

    Advice to Management

Advice to DISTRICT MANAGEMENT & HUMAN RESOURCES: Take notice to sudden turnover in your stores, question, investigate, and LISTEN to associates. Store Management can be VERY intimidating

I have been working at Big Lots part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The people i work with are very nice, if you are there long enough it becomes a little family.

    Cons

only party time, unless you are management. Low pay. once a year reviews/raises. scheduling is awful, low hours. typical retail job where corporate expects WAY too much out of their employees. not enough hours in the day to complete the tasks needed.

    Advice to Management

care more. fake it if you have to. a small "good job" goes a long way.

I worked at Big Lots (Less than a year)

    Pros

Relatively easy work for anyone willing to work. Flexible hours so you cash balance school and life. in store managers were great.

    Cons

Skeleton crew. Rarely full-time because they don't want to pay for anyone's insurance. Upper management slightly clueless

    Advice to Management

More people on the clock will provide better service to your guests. Guests hated us because there edging enough people to help them. List a lot of customers and customers who stayed lowered their expectations of us.

I have been working at Big Lots full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Pays better than most jobs out there and most of the people are great to work with. Will work with your hour needs when possible.

    Cons

Not much of a personal life and a lot of hours. During the holidays have to work 6 days and don't get extra pay. Corporate scheduling is not that great.

I have been working at Big Lots full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

People I work with and Customers that I work for. Discounts, 20% and 30% 2 to 3 times a year. Room for growth if you wish to move up. We sell a variety of items, lots to chose from we even sell quality furniture 80% of the time.

    Cons

DM and Corporate have no understanding that change cannot happen overnight. If they want you to be on the new system, with new core values and expectations that some of this takes time. Making sure every store is on track and caught up so that every store has a chance to run on the new system. Also when changing, giving the extra hours promised to be able to be proficient on the new system.

    Advice to Management

DM's and corporate work in a store for 2 weeks and see what we do on a daily basis and then give advice on how to make changes with what is given.

I have been working at Big Lots (More than a year)

    Pros

There wasn't any reason I can think of other!

    Cons

Nothing but a discount and nobodies friends.

    Advice to Management

They need to train there employees a lot better. The need to get people who want to work there and don't complain all the time. They also should stop working the manager like a slave cause it's not fair!
