I worked at Big Y Foods part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

-The people that you work with will most likely be friendly and helpful!
-Clean and well kept working environment.
-Flexible with time off, availability, other jobs, etc.
-"Dress for Success" attitude makes employees stand out over other competitors.
-Great -first- job for a high school student.

    Cons

-Horrible hours. If you are a cashier/service clerk, do not expect to get much more than 20-30 hours a week.
The schedule is all over the place. One week you could have as little as 4 hours.
-Annual raises, but don't expect much. I was still making under $9/hr after working there for 2 1/2 years.
-While many of the people I started out with were offered transfers into different departments, I was not.
-Biggest pet peeve.....Management will often make workers (especially service clerks) stay after their scheduled shift to collect carriages in the lot, and they want you to do this AFTER you punch out. Therefore not paid for that work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I think the managers are doing a great job, however something needs to be done about the carriage after store closing rule. Also offer your employees that have been there the longest a chance to grow.

I worked at Big Y Foods part-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

    Great first job
    Learn interpersonal skills
    Good benefits available

    Cons

    Pay scale not always accurate
    Leaders sometimes less then qualified

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I think there needs to be more taken into account when it comes to promotions and upward mobility. I saw too many cases of great employees going nowhere because training hours weren't correctly entered or promises were not fulfilled. Also, pay scale needs to be adjusted with minimum wage changes. A new employee should not have the same pay as a an employee whose at the company for 2 plus years.

I have been working at Big Y Foods part-time (more than a year)

    Pros

You work with some very nice people, and the work is easy for the pay.

    Cons

I've run into too many problems to like this company. A senior member of management was bullying me and the final outcome was just her transfer. I transferred myself to a different store and I was left off the schedule for TWO WEEKS straight! I don't know about them but I need my job to keep myself afloat, apparently that doesn't matter to them.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't protect the employees that don't deserve to have their job! Care a little more about your employees that actually do their job and don't mistreat people!
