    Pros

-The company is growing fast! BigMachines is rapidly growing and has been since I joined over three years ago. All of this rapid growth means more and more opportunities for the employees. Lots of potential for upward mobility and for career development. The management is very supportive of employee development whether that means going to conferences, taking classes or doing additional training. -I love my co-workers! Pretty much every person hired is extremely smart and hard working, not to mention fun. Because of that, the dynamic is more like working with your friends than just co-workers. -Laid back work environment with a work-hard/play-hard mentality. Free food and soda in the kitchen, weekly team lunches on Friday. Everyone works hard to get projects done on time but we are treated like adults with our own way of working. So, working from home occasionally is accepted by most teams, and schedules can be semi-flexible. -Nothing is set in stone. If you have a great idea for how something/anything could be better in the organization, management listens. Seriously. This just doesn't happen in most companies.

    Cons

-The company is growing fast! With growth, comes frustration too. The work load can get out of hand. Hiring just can't happen fast enough and so some people feel like they are underwater with projects. The career development that is so sought after can also add to the work load. -The company is undergoing some serious changes right now, which can be stressful and confusing at times. New processes, new management, new a lot of things. There are definitely growing pains and sometimes it's hard to see the forest through the trees. -The compensation tends to be on the lower end of the industry spectrum. But, honestly, if it wasn't for BigMachines, I never would have gotten the experiences I needed in the first place to be in the position I am in now. -I, too, can get frustrated at times. Like some of the negative reviewers on the site, some aspects of working for the company can be frustrating. But the positive outweighs the negative.

    Advice to Management

You can't please everyone, and I agree with a lot of the changes that the company is undergoing. It's for the overall good of everyone involved. Secondly, the company values start at the top. So I would urge the leaders in the company to "be the change they want to see" in the org, first and foremost.

    Pros

    1. Super Smart Co-Workers 2. Intellectually stimulating work 3. Relaxed attire 4. Ability to gain a lot of experience very quickly 5. Career advancement opportunities for those willing to do the work

    Cons

    1. Sometimes work trumps life on the teeter totter of work-life balance 2. Compensation is a little lite coming in the door 3. If you have questions, the company isn't mature enough to always provide easy answers

    Advice to Management

To Prospects - BigMachines is a great place to work, and the pros certainly outweigh the cons. It has been an amazing ride growing with this company over the last 4 years. While there are certainly plenty of challenges, those challenges lead to many opportunities for career advancement. I have a feeling that a lot of the negative reviews on this site were left by those that were either unwilling to dedicate themselves or whose dedication yielded little results. This is a new economy, and one must double down on their work ethic or suffer the consequences of mediocrity. BigMachines is in a unique position to attain tremendous growth in the coming years. They are financially healthy, and investing heavily in the product and in their employees. Come along for the ride. To Management - Please, please keep investing in the product and the people! When communicating the company vision and plan, include timelines and owners. I know a lot of this stuff is still on the drawing board, and maybe it is best to leave it there until the plan is fleshed out a bit more. Keep advancing those that put in the effort, and start creating paths for advancement so people have a clear idea of what needs to be done to succeed.

    Pros

Smart and talented team Open environment. If you have the potential, you would get to do the work that you want to do.

    Cons

Its a place where you work hard and party harder. It needs adjustment to balance your work life. If you show the potential, management would offer you the flexibility.

    Advice to Management

Programs for Self growth of employees should be designed along with the employee and this need not be related to their work.

    Pros

    1) Great Benefits 2) Awesome People 3) Casual Environment 4) Growing Rapidly

    Cons

    1) Overall Pay is low 2) No real way to advance except for title 3) Review process is antiquated and even management does not like it 4) The hours expected of you are extreme (12 hour days, every day is not longer)

    Advice to Management

You treat everyone well, and it is a great company to work at, but the expectations of each employee is unrealistic and will burn people out.

    Pros

    - Great people in this company - Leader in its industry - Fantastic development and Ops team - Fully stocked kitchen - Alcohol served Fridays (late afternoon) - Some great resources - Great company meetings weekly (free lunch) - Extremely difficult job to get

    Cons

    - No clear career path. Company is constantly changing, so what you may have been told were potential career paths, may be different the next month - Ever increasing goals and work load, while trying to find ways to pay you less - More of a "figure it out on your own" approach - Lower pay than other jobs in that area - Workplace morale could be a lot better

    Advice to Management

CEO is great. He has a great vision, and he is a very brilliant, fun, and personable guy. Easily one of the funniest guys I have met. Management could do a better job answering questions or providing guidance. As well as providing employees with information on what to expect for career advancement.

A nice place to get your feet wet, but poor sales management and little room for advancement

    Pros

    - Young, energetic environment - Fast growing industry - Good benefits compared to other business in the area - Good product, with some great development people - Well stocked kitchen

    Cons

    - Salary and commission is significantly lower than alternatives - Fast growing company means things are always changing (could be a "Pro" depending on how you look at it) - Undefined career paths, little or no room for advancement - Many complaints about management, particularly sales executives

    Advice to Management

There is a noticeable downward trend in employee satisfaction, and I think its in large part to the lack of career advancement within the company. I can speak for others when I say that we no longer felt management has their employees best interests in mind. It was difficult to give 100% when you felt management wasn't doing the same for you.

    Pros

High growth company, very casual environment typical of many software companies, very quick career growth potential, very open environment to get info and ask questions in, sales pipeline is bursting, free soda and candy!

    Cons

Sales team allowed to rule the roost, oftentimes selling things that the product cannot do, leaving implementation teams out to dry. Full sales pipeline forcing company to outsource work, oftentimes leaving clients unhappy. Extreme cost cutting measures being taken, possibly for a sale.

    Advice to Management

Have a defined vision for where to go with the company; is it going to be a software company, focusing on product development and selling licenses, or is it going to start taking its professional services practice seriously?

    Pros

The company is growing fast and hiring a lot of new talent based on a rigorous testing and recruiting process. BigMachines is a leading partner for cloud computing leaders such as Salesforce.com and Oracle and is deploying a lot of cool web 2.0 technology.

    Cons

Due to the growth, the resources are stretched thin and team members are expected to work hard and do whatever it takes to help the company succeed. Things seem a bit chaotic at times.

    Advice to Management

Add sufficient resources to all the teams to enable a better balance. Formalize employee growth plans and provide more opportunities for training.
