    Pros

Great building to work in. Good social. Support charity to increase profit for the company including their progression in the assay development.

    Cons

Poor training procedure. I had worked in many companies. But here, their management and training strategies are very poor. They are not friendly and do not support staffs during their struggles. Very disappointed. Don't expect to progress in learning or gain anything.

    Advice to Management

Please improve the training for new staff and provide better supports when they are struggling. Staffs like to work in a friendly atmosphere, not in difficult where they have to suffer. No wonder there is high stress level of work and would lead to high sickness level due yo neglecting staffs support needs

    Pros

Was quite a relaxed environment to work in until fairly recently. Jo Bradwell is a smart guy, sold up when he realised all the pros had gone elsewhere or retired. Trevor King and some of the other old timers were simply the best.

    Cons

Now the company is under the full control of the investors there is way too much red tape and bureaucracy. Many of the managers are simply there due to length of service. Most of the properly qualified guys have long gone leaving fresh graduates doing entry level jobs. Graduates are coming in on 12k a year so that says it all really.
It's a real shame that the now highest level don't practise what they preach. Guess they too are under unquestionable orders from the investors.

    Advice to Management

Have some spine. Treat others how you would expect to be treated.

    Pros

Great building in a great location, a lot of young people so a lot of social opportunities, senior management are friendly and approachable, good opportunities to transfer internally, good experience for fresh graduates. Company makes effort to improve engagement, stable job with company achieving above industry average growth. Good hours.

    Cons

Company has become very corporate since move to new HQ, less social events and loss of small company feel. Tend to employ a lot of fresh graduates with 2:2's in semi-relevant degrees that can carry out job but don't bring any added value, also employs graduates for non-graduate positions on low pay. Some production departments struggle to understand capacity issues and employ more people without adding to equipment capacity leading to over-staffed departments. Many inefficiencies in production process but always striving to improve this,

    Pros

All the Pros have left and the staff left have nowhere else to go.

    Cons

Was a great company but now it's limping along like a dog who's collided with a car.

    Advice to Management

Animal Farm was supposed to be a novel not a business plan

    Pros

Nice building and working environment, hours are appealing and colleagues are friendly. Other than that there isn't much.

    Cons

pay is substandard for job role, no room for progression, company doesn't value staff loyalty and wastes money on pointless slogans.

    Advice to Management

Invest in your staff and you'll have a happy and engaged workforce.

    Pros

Excellent product, Good scientific and evidence based marketing, good facilities, decent salary

    Cons

Since takeover by venture capital fund, Senior management operate as cosy club with whimsical and vindictive behavior towards middle and lower cadre; Too much hubris without considering other point of views; avoid the company like plague
Maybe its a strategy to downsize and preparing for exit sale

    Advice to Management

Practice what you preach in HR about Just and Fair view towards all - stop bending over backwards to every whim and fancy of a select few who think they wield all power

Modern company on the outside; traditional, slow, and process-oriented on the inside.

    Pros

The company has recently moved to modern and spacious premises right in the Birmingham city centre. The strength of this company is in its (international) sales and marketing.

    Cons

In many departments of the Binding site the process has become the product often under the guise of "quality assurance". Tremendous inefficiencies are masked by strong sales in a small niche market that lacks a competitor for the time being. Should this situation change, it is highly unlikely that the current R&D innovation can take up the slack. Senior management information is passed down by "trickle down" through the babbling of junior managers and HR. Employees flee the premises at the strike of the clock.
Future employees beware; if you are looking for a modern Biotech company in the vein of Genetech you are set to be disappointed. You are likely more likely to find a traditional Midlands manufacturing company in every sense - process oriented, hierarchical, patriarchal, slow. Needles to say this model has not served other Midlands companies well, but this company lacks the vision to see the parallels. I certainly would not recommend this company to anyone who values autonomy, creativity and who is goal oriented.
Please note that this review relates to the UK premises in Birmingham not the international subsidiaries where the situation could be different.

    Advice to Management

My advice to leadership would be to stop isolating themselves at the top. Educate themselves on the workings of more established big-name Biotech companies ...there is is plenty to learn.
