I have been working at Bio-Rad Laboratories full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Stable company with solid direction from CIO, CFO, Directors and upper management. Employees and Management have shown consistent commitment to work and finding their way to profitability. Work environment is generally nice, supportive, collaborative and effective for team work. Most projects and tasks I worked with had reasonable timelines and flexibility to work my preferred solutions (how I deemed right) as long as I kept management updated of approach, status and delivered in time. Employees have some flexibility to work schedules, some on job training and decent benefits.

    Cons

Work gets done here at its own pace with some hand holding and convincing. Small issues and dissatisfaction can become big and over shadow success.

I have been working at Bio-Rad Laboratories full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Current Life Science Group Management is ambitious, competitive, greed driven, and dictatorial. They will grow the business, so there will always be jobs at BRL.

    Cons

No loyalty for long term employees. Life Science leadership views long term employees (20+ years) as a hindrance to growth, innovation and change. Its like working for the Godfather, but with no loyalty. Now bow your head the kiss the ring. The business will grow, some times at the expense of the employee base.

I worked at Bio-Rad Laboratories full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Insurance benefits for entire family, suburban locations, easy reverse commute, clean, comfortable offices, nice campus.

    Cons

Inept management, penny pinching, cliquish , old school management, no flexibility . Not a happy environment, no gym, or perks. Top down management, no openness to innovation. Just work. I never worked anywhere where people complained about their jobs this much and yet didn't quit and find a better job.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

get some new blood in management, too many have been there too long and don't know how to do things better

Bio-rad is a great place to work. The company's philosophy is family oriented and therefore makes for a lot of care for its people in the benefits and salary that it gives.

    Cons

Bio-rad is a slow growing company which makes for a stable environment but also means that the budget can be tight for bonuses.

I worked at Bio-Rad Laboratories full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

The upside at Bio-Rad is definitely the stability and compensation. If you want, you can work there for most of your life, having 3-7 different positions. Bio-Rad loves to promote and hire from within. Plus, with the company continuously doing well, buying the stock options is a big bonus.

    Cons

This is where you've got to fight your inner demons with Bio-Rad. If you like latest technologies, products that release to market quickly (less than a year), then Bio-Rad is not your place. You've got relax here and go with the flow. The culture is even depressingly behind in standards by recognizing empty seats and not recognizing performance. Plus, if you feel Bio-Rad is a career between careers, well, be careful. Your skills may fall way behind depending on your background.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management needs to adapt to current trends, cultures, and listen to those who don't match your style.

    Cons

    Many two-faced employees.
    Some unhealthy competition amongst employees.
Supervisor uses public means for vengeance on private issues.
    Passive-aggressive leadership.
    Middle management lacks authority.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Anti-social people does not make a good fit for supervisor. Middle management has a hard time conveying company goals because they do not have rapport with the base.
