    Pros

Rewarding work with supportive management. I'm "just a TA" but you'd never hear my head teacher say that! I've been doing this for almost four years at my school and I love it- most days. (Added bonus, it qualifies for student loan forgiveness through public service!) Paid vacations in the sense that you get multiple holidays off and never have to wonder about shifts changing or losing hours- no gaining hours either but it's a trade off.

    Cons

Lower pay for the cost of living in New York :( fairly rigid hours and no (paid) over time. Worth it if you can afford to do what you love and love what you do! It's a twelve month program at my location so none of those teachers summers off :(

    Advice to Management

Lobby Albany so us hardworking TAs can move from lower middle class to middle class, woo hoo.

    Advice to Management

Construct employees on standby for callouts.

I have been working at Birch Family Services full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The Teachers and therapist are professional and are truly vested in the students. Good team work on the part of the Teachers and most of the Therapist.

    Cons

Highly disorganized , HR is rude, and of no assistance. Established contractual salaries are changed and never discussed or explained at every level from Teachers and Therapist to the TA's. Paper work is redundant to say the least.

    Advice to Management

Adhere to the agreed upon salaries, moral would increase tremendoulsy. Your staff feels as if this is a "Bait and Switch " operation. And their would be far less turn over of Teachers and Therapist.

    Pros

You feel good about the work you are doing as a direct support professional

    Cons

They just fired the entire HR department, including the head, some people quit. They are not doing well financially and you are expected to pick up extra work for mediocre pay. Management makes false promises and provides little to no guidance.

I have been working at Birch Family Services (More than a year)

    Pros

not too many pros here. you get to work with children that's about it. it is especially rewarding working with the special needs kids. also, you get out of work early so you have the whole day to yourself and off on weekends.

    Cons

The pay sucks, especially in comparison to the salary of a paraprofessional for the BOE. Administrators are unprofessional, secretary constantly loses or forgets to process paperwork,

    Advice to Management

Need to build morale. revamp entire administrative staff. more polite and empathic principal.
