I have been working at Bird Technologies full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Private company so when there is gain share checks they are nice. Flexible with time off. Most of the managers are exceptional. It sure is nice that the whole manufacturing plant has HVAC.

    Cons

Average salaries. Most of the cons you'd probably find at any work place. Stuff like it's sometimes too hot or too cold.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Recognize employees for the behavior you'd like to see.

I have been working at Bird Technologies full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

    Friendly staff and management
Good management for the tasks at hand
    Decent pay and profit-sharing.

    Cons

Complete lack of developing talent. They take you in at your current level and don't think to push you to your potential.
Don't take advantage of existing potential. I worked an entire year on maintaining code that someone with much less education and at a lower pay grade could have easily done.
Pretty inflexible towards alternative schedules such as 4 10 hour days or 9 hour days with every other Friday off even when working solo on a project.
Only 2 weeks of vacation and no sick leave or personal time off. This would be much more easily forgiven if they were flexible on work schedule.
No overtime or comp time benefit for salary employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more flexible with schedule or at least offer some personal time off. Come up with a comp time system. Working long hours to meet a deadline should be rewarded in some way.

I have been working at Bird Technologies full-time

    Pros

Treat employees ok. Longevity, Bird has been in Solon for ever. There seems to be very little accountability which makes Bird a very average company. It is very unlikely you would be fired for performing average.

    Cons

The company lacks a clear strong vision and there are very few new products (or this is just not communicated well). If you were investing, the return on this investment would seem to be small. Future growth is through acquisitions, but recent acquisitions are struggling. Recent layoffs and cuts in benefits (summer hours) and small gain share payouts have reduced the loyalty to the company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It may be time to reduce overhead! Some of the recent acquisitions seem to be struggling and are having an impact on the gain share payouts. Where are the new products? Why is engineering working so much on products for a division who is not making money? Do we really need that many people in Marketing? President seems to travel a lot, and bring back photos of his trips to show people at the round table meetings.

I worked at Bird Technologies full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Family-like environment, everyone knows who you are and what you do. Lots of technology-driven innovation and engineering in a SME environment.

    Cons

Stressful periods of times when some people are not willing to collaborate or schedule time to work on specific projects. Profit-sharing is on the low side, sometimes you get payouts and other times you don't get payouts as determined by the cash flow of the business.

I have been working at Bird Technologies full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

The international company has been in business for over 70 years. A friendly environment that promotes teamwork across the organization. Management builds trust throughout all departments. Profit sharing through a formal gainsharing program that is tied to company success. Employees are valued and recognized for their achievements. There is an interest in employees and their development. Technology driven, so the envionnment is clean and comfortable.

    Cons

Can be conservative at times. A smaller company that may not have as many opportunities as a larger employer.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Take more growth risks.

I have been working at Bird Technologies full-time

    Pros

Just about impossible to get fired unless you steal from the company or miss too many days without pay.

Steady employment, only had one layoff in the time I have been here.

If you want a job where you can get by with doing a minimal amount of work and be considered a good employee this is the place to be.

Some good hardworking decent people here.

    Cons

Just about impossible to get fired unless you steal from the company or miss too many days without pay. The company would be better off if it relied on productivity instead of longevity of employees.

They are not open to allowing flex time.

There is a right way, a wrong way, and then the Bird way of doing things. They say they want ideas on how to do things differently, but when you make a suggestion all you get is "that isn't our way of doing that".

You need to turn your brain off when you walk in the door or else you will be miserable here.

If you give notice you had better really have another job lined up. They will not counter offer. It's like you have insulted them if you want to leave.

No pay raises in the last 2 plus years.

They say they are a family company, but they treat most employees like the poor side of that family.

A lot of talk, but not much action.

Once you start here they tend to see you as only capable of what you are doing at that point, regardless of your background/experience/education.

Many employees will complain constantly about stuff but when asked by management all they do is say "all is well". They don't want to make waves. Or get stuff corrected apparently.

    Croneism rampant here.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Start random drug testing of all employees. Trust me, you would be surprised.

Don't allow someone to be directly under the supervision of his cousin.

Open your eyes and see what is really going on. So many people only do the bare minumim because that is all that is expected of them, since they know they won't be fired or even get in trouble for being slackers.

    Pros

Good steady job with great benefits and some good people

    Cons

no raises , low pay , and ALOT of responsibilities as the years go on. Company is so small that it needs people to go above and beyond their job duties but you will not be compensated for them .

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

compensate individuals who perform well . you have lost many outstanding young workers because you refuse to compensate.

I have been working at Bird Technologies

    Pros

Bird offers time flexibility with the installation of flex hours. Time off is usually never an issue. Bird is a private company so we enjoy the benefit of participating in gain share bonuses.

    Cons

I tried to think of a downside for working at Bird and I am coming up blank. Certainly everyone would like to be paid more and for the company to grow at a faster pace so we can have larger gain share checks.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Improved specific public recognition/reward of employees is desired. Appreciation goes a long way to job fulfillment and overall morale.
