I have been working at Birks And Mayors full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

The people are fantastic (with the exception of a few bad eggs). While the salary is not great, they know it and are working to provide increases over the next few years. The new CEO (started about 2 yrs ago) has made very positive changes and people are happier than they've been in years. You feel your voice is heard in this company, you are not a cog in the wheel. Great work-life balance, family life and vacations are encouraged.

    Cons

Promotions are few and far between, they are given out of necessity more than how much someone deserves it. It is a retail company at it's core; meaning things can be fast paced and decisions are made and un-made.

I worked at Birks And Mayors full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

decent product and loyal clients, luxury and high quality with customer focused approach, also a national company.

    Cons

Where do I start? senior management is extremely disappointing which leads to the business secessions to be Bias and based on gossip which creates unnecessary conflicts, also management have a very low level of training on all aspects of retail management which results in waisted time and experimenting, gossip and drama are the trend!!very disappointing in a public company.

Worthless stock. Shame for a public company.

Unqualified, even horrible managers. Sexism. Nice slogan from upstream. Nothing is done from the basic. No life balance. For someone who worked here for many years, it is a shame that this person still only makes almost minimal wage.

    Run away and run fast.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire only qualified managers. And discard cliquish-ness.

I have been working at Birks And Mayors

    Pros

Incredible location, People, Pay, inventory to sell.

    Cons

Scheduling was a bit of an issue. Some days you would have no idea what your schedule would look like for the next few weeks... Making it impossible to have a "normal work/life schedule"

I worked at Birks And Mayors

    Pros

It was a job during the rough downturn in the economy, and they do sell Rolex which is highly sought after.

    Cons

They expected me to network outside of the store by going to bars, clubs etc. to try to build clientele during the rough economy. Since the pay was subpar and I wasn't getting paid to go to bars or clubs after hours, this wasn't really feasible. Unrealistic expectations on their part. They should have utilized better ad campaigns to drive business to their stores.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

to become a world class retailer you must implement world class management techniques and develop your senior management to be at par with todays behavior management and managing to accountability especially if you are to adapt"as said" performance management and not bias and personal interpretations,if that is applied you will succeed.
