I have been working at Bitcasa

    Pros

    - Talented group of people that have a genuine interest in helping customers and each other.
    - Very good benefits for a relatively small startup.

    Cons

    - Executive management make poor decisions without thought or care for its customers or employees.
    - Very poor job hiring senior management. Often promoting out of necessity and not based on merit.
    - Lack of a clear vision or strategy. "Leadership" team lack visionary/strategic capacity.
    - The once startup culture left the day "Tap" became CEO.
    - Often feels like a sweatshop; jumping from one large push to another with very little downtime or retrospective.
    - Feels like a dictatorship, with everyone trying to please Tap.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - Make better decisions.
    - Think about your customers and employees for once.
    - Remove the CEO.
    - Hire a strong and experienced head of HR/People to create a strong culture again.

    Pros

For a small company the benefits are great. No out of pocket cost for benefits, lunches everyday, nice gym membership and Cal Train passes.

    Cons

    So many cons:

    1. Management doesn't know what they are doing. There is no sense of direction from leadership.
    2. Leadership is just tying to make CEO happy and not doing what's best for the team.
    3. Team is being told lies about potential deals or partnerships but nothing has come true.
    4. Many engineers told to work on one thing and then has to change direction without notice.
    5. So many good people are leaving and are not being replaced
    6. Start-up feel is non-existent. "G&A" team implementing corporate policies.
    7. Stock options are worthless at this point.
    8. It's so bad when people leave, management doesn't even announce it anymore. They just hope people don't realize who's gone.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Time to find another company to ruin.

I have been working at Bitcasa

    Pros

Ping pong. Benefits. The occasional beer run. A select group of fun hard working individuals.

    Cons

CEO and upper management are running this company into then ground. They do not care about the users or employees.

Upper management is extremely unqualified, unprofessional, and lack any sense of ownership and responsibility. They are and will be the first to throw anyone under the bus.

Unqualified and unprofessional "HR / G&A" team who only care about pleasing the CEO and the bottom line.

Business model is a joke and any financial information provided, publicly or externally, is a lie.

Culture and morale are plummeting. Those who originally cared and believed in Bitcasa, pre CEO Taptich and upper management, are gone or are looking to leave.

    Depressing office and location.

Workload fluctuates based on poor execution of product planning and implementation.

    No clear direction or goals.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop lying to your employees and users.

Remove the CEO and upper management and start from scratch. Rebuild by keeping the do'ers and innovators who enjoy supporting each other and the user.

    OR..

Quit. Shut the company down and give the users back their money for being scammed into a false advertised beta product.

I worked at Bitcasa full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

The team, medical coverage, fun events, great office

    Cons

Upper management is driving the company into the ground with no course of action to fix things. Essentially hanging on by a thread with no sense of loyalty or appreciation for their employees. The product is failing as is the entire business model.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be transparent and provide some sort of outcome for a team that is losing considerable faith in you and the company. As an executive team, there's no guidance to the rest of the employees who can clearly see that their hard work is all for not.

    Pros

Most employees are extremely bright, hard-working individuals who you would be happy to work alongside.

    Cons

Upper management is extremely unorganized. We are expected to execute very poorly planned strategies on a regular basis that teeter between being unethical and downright slimy. It often feels that upper management is lying to its employees as much as they are lying to customers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more open and more honest. Stop talking and start acting.

I worked at Bitcasa full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

There are lots of technical challenges.

    Cons

    Management has terrible communication skills.
Exceedingly noisy office where it's impossible to get work done. Management ignores requests to improve.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I was let go from Bitcasa for 'performance' reasons. My last review, which was almost a year ago was fine. Since that time, there have been no performance reviews and no informal feedback from management regarding my performance. Then, suddenly, I am let go for performance reasons.

Be very wary of this company. Would you want to work for a company that has no review process and then suddenly decided to let people go to to unsubstantiated performance reasons?
