Former Employee - Account Manager/Sales in Winston-Salem, NC

    Pros

Decent pay and benefits. Decent product and support. Wide array of technologies, large domestic footprint. Very good technical support on the Hotline call in service.

    Cons

You need to accept you are only a number, there is no personal identity. They believe it is ALL ABOUT THE BOTTOM LINE. The truth is that People, are the ones who create the bottom line. The term micro managed is an understatement. There were more UN kept promises than there are minutes in a year. The regional/local management were in so far over their heads, they had to lay on their backs to see daylight.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You need to stop hiring the good old boy's from Murfreesboro TN to run the company and hie a professional from outside that has not been brainwashed or has any ties to the current regime. Your board of directors need to acknowledge this fact, and put the management staff in the corporate facility where they belong.

    Pros

It's a job. There are some great people to work with. Unfortunately they don't outnumber those who are not. Peers claim the benefits are great. My experience, I don't think so. It's a large company so it's easy to be lost if you're someone who abhors notice or spotlight. If you are easily satisfied or like to drift by in the anonymity of a large corporation this is the job for you.

    Cons

Stagnant pay. Bonus... not anymore. Training, that's gone too. Performance completely unrecognized. Management responsibility is thrust on the employee as if it's a privilege to do their work. Expectation is that you're on call 24x7 and because you have no life you can go where they point at a moments notice. If you as an employee don't have enough resources or time to complete your work well that must be a fault of the employee not management.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take responsibility for your job and role. "At least you have a job" is not an excuse anymore for lack of pay raises or bonus. Genuine concern for employee and career would be refreshing.

    Pros

Great benefits and just get it all in writing....

    Cons

None of it was a good experience as they say one thing and do another and people are basic numbers there. Structure of the organization is lacking as each office is seperate and compete for the same business.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Start treating others as you want to be treated. Honesty goes a long way in this world.

Current Employee - Anonymous Employee in Maple Grove, MN

    Pros

Black Box is a huge company and has all the benefits that go along with their size. However, most of the offices function as independent units of the company and maintain their ability to be nimble and adjust quickly. They also provide small company atmospheres where people really care about what is happening. While I am sure there are some "bad" offices, even two offices in the same area can be completely separate in terms of culture, people, tenure and attitude. Anyone looking for an accurate review of the Black Box office they are considering should pay very close attention to the office being reviewed because if the name doesn't match exactly the review means litte to nothing.

    Cons

It takes a little longer than normal to get the specific benefit information when you start. They start benefits right away but it takes a while to get the details.
The benefits are very generous though so it's worth the wait.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep investing in good people and technology!

    Pros

Nice co-workers and that is all.

    Cons

By far the worst sales job I have ever had. Senior management is in way over her head and is driving the division into the ground. Very low moral because of leadership's unethical treatment. I have seen many people come, and many people go. You live off of the base salary they provide with very little commission even at the top. Extreme Micro Management.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat your employees with respect. Take classes on business.

    Pros

Quality of the products is great. I sleep at night knowing my customers got quality products that will perform. It is incredibly rare that a product fails the customer.

    Cons

Its hard to describe how mismanaged they are. Year after year. The top management has no idea how to fix it either.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep promoting people to the top that have no background in sales or corporate management and see where we go. At the current rate HQ will become a distribution center to the integrators and the Name of Black Box will be left in the history books as a great product.

    Pros

Enjoyed the work once I was at a customer site. Very little overnight travel. Great co-workers.

    Cons

Poor equipment to work with. Counting inventory of outdated equipment that should have been thrown in the dumpster. Management more concerned about the bottom line rather than the customers satisfaction. No pay raises. Took away the annual Christmas Bonus!!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't publicize all the pay raises and bonuses the upper management get when the workers get nothing.
