I worked at Black Eyed PEA part-time

    Pros

Work schedule is pretty flexible and they try to work around your schedule.

    Cons

The kitchen was infested with roached the entire time I worked there and management didn't do much. Management also mistreated employees pretty bad.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Clean your kitchen and actually do some work.

I worked at Black Eyed PEA full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Their standards are low, so they can't expect too much out of you without having to expend any effort on raising their own standards.

    Cons

The kitchens are disorganized, the restaurant is poorly managed, understaffed in the kitchen crew, and there are LOTS of customers that tip terribly. You'll make a lot less at Black-Eyed Pea, than working somewhere like T.G.I. Fridays, or Cracker Barrel. Equipment is always broken, the management doesn't communicate with each other, and servers get pretty exploited. If you consider working here, count to zero, then run in the other direction.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Spend some money on fixing problems!

I have been working at Black Eyed PEA full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

    I have a job during a recession...

    Cons

The air conditioner in back of house hasn't worked since before I got there (during summer in Denton, Texas, this is unacceptable). The main boss, Scott, is an incompetent manager (bad with customers, gets in the way of back of house staff when he tries to help). He likes to fire people for any reason because he's power-happy (it's a serious problem, a lot of people have been quitting because of this).

The other workers (managers Ashley & Taylor included), are hard-working, pleasant people.

We're underpaid, considering that Scott likes to consolidate the responsibilities of different jobs without changing the pay scale. It also sucks that I've been put in a position where I could be working at fast-food and be making more money for less effort (and have a working A/C).

The moment I find another job, I will leave without even the slightest hesitation.

No chance for pay raise, little availability for moving up.

Also, allegedly Scott had a sex scandal at the last BEP he worked at - no proof, but he is a scumbag, so I wouldn't be surprised.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Fix the air conditioning, you incompetent cheapskates. Didn't you get the hint when customers were leaving this summer(without paying) because the hot air from the back was significantly affecting the front?

I worked at Black Eyed PEA full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

flexible schedules, management is willing to work with you, steady flow of customers into the restaurant. good opportunities to move up in the company if you put in the effort and the time

    Cons

sometimes (like in all restaurants) you can get cut early and not make any money. type of restaurant that it is likes to pull in older folks, whom like to tip less!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    keep up the good work!
