I have been working at Black & Decker

    Pros

When you put Black & Decker on your resume it gets respect and attention. It is widely considered a blue-chip company. In lower positions, olike channel manager, you will have an opportunity to learn the ropes-- good training.

    Cons

In terms of work environment, I understand that in the last couple of years it has improved but the turnover at the top has been a turnstyle-- incredible velocity of new players--none groomed for the job. Especially true in marketing, a highly-fractured department.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I have no advice for management. I need to write 20 words here and I guess the only thing I can say is that "Black & Decker management" is something of an oxymoron.

I have been working at Black & Decker

    Pros

Generally nice people, fun products to develop and use, nice location

    Cons

Low pay, lack of confidence of managers in new talent, some people need Master's or higher to promote while other persons with no degrees get promoted, unequitable performance reviews, lousy HR attitude toward employees

I have been working at Black & Decker

    Pros

Good career path; compensation and benefits; talented people; the culture is very aggressive/competitive but people get things done.

    Cons

The culture is fairly aggressive...the leadership team is consists of primarily Type A people but at the same time they are extremely talented/intelligent people - the Elites.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take risk and lead! Be more open to changes.

    Pros

Fun atmosphere, allowed to check out display tools for personal use if needed, if you love tools, working with your hands, and dealing with customers up front as they walk through the door, you'll like working here.

    Cons

Pressure to sell, too few hours

I have been working at Black & Decker

    Pros

The environment is nice, it's not a stuck up place to work. There is tons of transparency from management. There is lots of exposure to different and interesting processes and projects have fun challenges. There is a lot of opportunity to work cross-functionally and see other parts of the business. Benefits are pretty decent and the people are generally nice.

    Cons

A lot is expected from you, which is sometimes OK, but when night after night of staying late goes by, it quickly gets old. Promotions are very subjective and, frankly, not (always) given when deserved. It has an unfortunately true reputation of not paying well for technical positions and there is no bonus program for those outside of marketing and sales. It is near impossible to get fired, so therefore you end up working with some "fat" that never gets trimmed.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take a look at salaries not just in the area, but statewide. Modify the salaries based on that. HR should take specific pulse checks (not the company wide check). Openness is "welcomed" and most managers have open door policies, but an annual 10 minute sit-down with the HR person for that department would seem more valuable than anything else that is being done.

I have been working at Black & Decker

    Pros

Great team atmosphere. Much opportunity for growth and advancement if you work hard. Great work/ life balance. No micromanaging (in my team). Empowerment to make educated decisions. Don't see an abundance of arrogance from top level.

    Cons

Coming into the company, it is rare that one receives acceptable training (if any). You are pretty much left to your own devices to "figure it out". Very com

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I actually think my manager is close to perfect. Great mentor.

I worked at Black & Decker

    Pros

-Many opportunities for advancement in sales and marketing for those that excel at their jobs.
-Great company culture with a "work hard, play hard" mentality.
-Work/Life balance - allows for time off when needed, no questions asked.
-Positive, can-do attitude of most employees made it a pleasure to work on projects with people.

    Cons

-Could possibly make more money doing the same job at another company.
-Upper management constantly switching jobs - promotions happened too fast for the higher up guys and gals so it was hard to establish a clear strategy and stick with it longer term.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

-Communication and lead by example. Stay in a job long enough to make a real impact and establish a legacy. Nothing else really to say about the leadership at Black & Decker, I enjoyed my time there.
