Current Employee - Software Test Developer in Bellevue, WA

    Pros

    - Competitive pay in the US (I hear in Canada it's less)
    - You won't deal with introverted developers or weirdo's
    - Great people, everyone is outgoing and wants to do good work
    - Lot's of freedom to take on new challenges
    - Managers are supportive

    Cons

    - Benefits are just "ok"
    - Hard to transition to a new career path
    - Upward growth opportunities are non-existant
    - No clearly defined roles, so receiving a promotion or pay raise happens when management feels like it, not when you've accomplished all goals and exceeded expectations
    - We don't even get much of a discount on BlackBerries

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Have better interviews to hire smarter people, they are the one's creating your product and right now the product is reflecting the talent at RIM.

Former Employee - Software Test Specialist in Bellevue, WA

    Pros

Company made sure employees kept learning new things
    Work is exciting

    Cons

Information sharing between groups could be better
Senior Management does not value input from lower level employees
Senior management made fun of competitors products despite problems with their own

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to your employees. Stop touting security as the reason RIM will stay ahead of its computers as that has proved to be untrue. Focus on the horizontals and not the verticals. Remove MikeL and JimB from the boardand co-CEO positions

    A Gang's rule

Current Employee - Software Developer in Bellevue, WA

    Pros

    Good office
    Nice Location
    Bellevue
    near to highway
    near to park

    Cons

Every project manager as a cheap gang of about 6 members and all its team members with no good experience with both ethics and technology. This gang type of atmosphere was told in many reviews here. It will take their complete life to change.
Management is very much a failure in identifying talent and getting the right people.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get real technical talent. Dont just believe on your own gang working under you.
In software gang attitude will lead to complete collapse.
Every one should be an individual contributor and at the same time a team player. Not a gang player who can manage a manager!!
