I worked at BlackBerry full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Innovation and new ideas. Initiatives and collaboration were sought always. Design and reviews are very well organized. Employees benefits are above average in the region.

    Cons

Too many program/project managers. NPI took too long compared with peers and competitors. A lot of pressure during mass layoffs

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Reduce the management layers, team leaders, directors/senior directors.

I worked at BlackBerry full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Lots of really smart people and exciting work. The work life balance is dependent on which area of the company you're in. Some areas are great, others not so much. Same as any large employer.

    Cons

You can have the greatest ideas and products in the world but if no one wants them...it doesn't really matter. The only knock I had when I was there was that a lot of the managers and directors while I"m sure they are very smart go there for taking up space and being in the right place at the right time. They didn't have experience outside of BlackBerry and so had very limited world knowledge or views.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Latest management seems to get it - go back to your core and be a strong niche player. You don't need to compete with Apple etc.
