I worked at BlackBerry as an intern for less than a year

    Pros

Fantastic workplace, great people to work with and passionate! Lots of perks as a Coop student too, I learned a lot, this experience was a boost on my resume!

    Cons

It wasn't possible to get a full time position at the end of my internship even if it went really well! This is due to to downsizing...

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management in 2011 didn't made the greatest decision and investments. They lost lots of market.

    Pros

Benefits, salary and work culture. Chance to work with the best in the industry.

    Cons

Some of the employees in senior positions are "oldies" who don't have leadership quality but are there because they joined the company early on.

I worked at BlackBerry as an intern for more than a year

    Pros

Exciting, fast paced and interesting place to work. The people are great, the employees are treated pretty well. Compensation is competitive and Waterloo is a good place to live. Very supportive of new ideas.

    Cons

Layoffs take a toll on employees and they are losing some great talent. Lots of Bureaucracy which hampers innovation.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Invest in your great talent and let ideas come, don't get bogged down in the bureaucracy

I worked at BlackBerry full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

The pace of the work environment was dynamic, fluid, Exciting, exhilrating.

    Cons

The leadership, lacking vision, direction, and insight into the marketplace. Too many leaders contaminated the organization. Legal Division killed the business groups, tied their hands and stalled the business from getting to market.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

R&D needs to drive the company not Finance.

I have been working at BlackBerry full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

A great environment where employees are encouraged to take risks, and develop new technologies. Direction from management is typically "We need to accomplish this - figure out how to do it, do it, then report back to me". Independent thinking is encouraged.

Many great employees - smart, and good to work with.

    Cons

Some of the longer serving employees have a negative, defeatist attitude.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Engage the employees - they have a lot of ideas to offer.

Keep up the good work - there's been a marked improvement since John Chen came aboard
