I worked at BlackBerry full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

If you work for the right manager you are able to have full autonomy and are left alone to do your job. No babysitting, hand holding or micro managing.

    Cons

If you work for the wrong manager you will be privy to political games between departments and constant battles of one upmanship.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't take your employees for granted. Especially the ones who have stuck with you through the last four years of incessant ups and downs.

I worked at BlackBerry full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Great benefits. Technically challenging environment. Gained some valuable experiences. Great place to work as a co-op.

    Cons

Process heavy - trying to get stuff done is as much work as the actual work. Slow to act due to "decision making by committee" approach and overly risk averse culture.

    Pros

    Cons

    Multicultural working environment.
Sometimes, you feel in the comfort zone because work is in detail and same for a while.

I worked at BlackBerry as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

Reasonably predictable workloads and working hours. Mostly strict schedule on bigger teams and meeting times known in advance. With the people you do work closely with, can develop strong personal relationships with them.

    Cons

Competitive environment, challenged to stay for more than just the core hours even though productivity does not necessarily rise. Isolated environment and often not enough in-person developer conversations. Occasionally geographically disconnected teams. Structures in place occasionally slow down progress. Occasionally mis-match between expectations communicated and evaluated against.
