    Pros

Nice people, decent salary and benefits

    Cons

Very insular; afraid to confront changing market; execution challenged - everything is late, late, late; women rarely make it to VP although with new mgmt that may have changed

Some very smart people especially in engineering H/W & S/W

    Cons

QNX now run the company & former QNX execs & employees are overly arrogant for the skills they posses, also Blackberry run via crisis management very little real strategy

    Advice to Management

Employ better executives starting at the top Blackberry has the worst marketing of any technology company in existence they are going the way of Northern Telecom

    Pros

If you’re a USA based employee your vacation entitlement when you first start working is excellent. It has new management with new ideas but the company still has that “small company” feel.

    Cons

If you work at one of the main locations (Waterloo, Dallas, Slough) and come in without any direct reports you might be able to progress your career by lateral movements, otherwise forget it, the company has no career progression path for you. People are leaving and there is no way to replace them because nobody wants to work for a company whose future is uncertain. More work and responsibilities for those who are left with no reward to go with it.

    Advice to Management

Times might be tough but you need to keep the valuable employees else you will crash and burn for sure while the competitors takes all your skilled talent.

    Pros

I had flexibility with job hours and location, decent pay, and recognition for a job well done. I was allowed autonomy and the ability to get tasks completed.

    Cons

Slow to respond to the changing market trends, leaving them well behind the new leaders after mostly establishing the market. Now they are left to play catch-up and it is at the cost of the employees that led to the original success. No longer innovative, they are working to stay in the game but it may be too little too late.

    Advice to Management

Let projects and products move faster. Upper management had too much say in product direction based on whims instead of customer needs. The segmented platform meant too many per-device tweaks to remove bugs, leading to long development cycles, which could have been corrected by a more stable platform.

    Pros

Good technology, gained experience working with various open space technologies in a globally scalable environment. Had the opportunity to work with some great local and international customers.

    Cons

Everyone likes working with a company that has focus and direction, a management team that compliments its employees on a job well done rather than tear down. One that believes in and encourages individual and team building.

    Advice to Management

More focus on employee development including mid and low level management. It is very important to place heavy emphasis on building your employees, encourage constructive criticism. Discourage rouge bully like management mentality.
