    Pros

Innovation and new ideas. Initiatives and collaboration were sought always. Design and reviews are very well organized. Employees benefits are above average in the region.

    Cons

Too many program/project managers. NPI took too long compared with peers and competitors. A lot of pressure during mass layoffs

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Reduce the management layers, team leaders, directors/senior directors.

I worked at BlackBerry full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Lots of really smart people and exciting work. The work life balance is dependent on which area of the company you're in. Some areas are great, others not so much. Same as any large employer.

    Cons

You can have the greatest ideas and products in the world but if no one wants them...it doesn't really matter. The only knock I had when I was there was that a lot of the managers and directors while I"m sure they are very smart go there for taking up space and being in the right place at the right time. They didn't have experience outside of BlackBerry and so had very limited world knowledge or views.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Latest management seems to get it - go back to your core and be a strong niche player. You don't need to compete with Apple etc.

    Pros

Big opportunities to contribute by closing gaps.

    Cons

Strategy was weak and unclear, and leadership was challenged to get a high performance culture that engaged employees to deliver results.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus on customers and get leaders who can deliver.

I worked at BlackBerry full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

There are lots of opportunities to learn new things
    Salary is pretty good
    Benefits are also good

    Cons

Training (other than limited CBT) and travel were completely cut
    High stress
    Poor work-life balance
    Limited potential for promotion
Too little attention on developing and keeping good people

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Your people can be awesome, so pay attention to them, help them feel like they are important, and fire all of the managers that have no clue how to be managers.

I worked at BlackBerry full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Pay was good and it was definitely a challenge.

    Cons

Long hours, HR Practices are not up to date and the company needs to practice what they preech.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire people who know how to run a business instead of promoting from within. I have nothing against a Canadian Company but if you are a "Global Company", then act like it. Just because you are Canadian and want to run things the Canadian way, doesn't mean it will work in other regions of the World. Also, you should have have had a marketing plan and a marketing department years ago (like in 2005 & 2006) to stay ahead of your competition as the BlackBerry was a very good product. The Rest is History!
