I worked at BlackBerry full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

if you stick to just the technical stuff you will really learn a lot , and helpful people and resources
pay was below market rate but not very bad either , good social events and they really cared about staff in a realistic way of course you cant please 100% of the people all the time but was really good working environment

    Cons

petty people in key positions and who are not fit to lead and promote their own lackies

I have been working at BlackBerry full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

    flexible work hours
    competitive compensation (salary, leaves)
    good benefits (health, dental)

    Cons

    lack of leadership at mid-management
too Canadian-centric to operate efficiently globally
starting to see a lack-of-trust at difficult times

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

need to better understand what is going-on 'below' you, not just 'above'
need to fit the right people to the right job.

I have been working at BlackBerry full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Seemingly promising direction since John Chen came on board

    Cons

You never know when you will be cut.
Lack of trust for staff - need to report daily/weekly activities

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Have patience with what you set out to do - it's not realistic to expect INSTANT results to initial investments.
Stop laying off the good talents, and keeping irrelevant personnel in crucial job functions such as sales. Think about shifting the layoffs into other teams.
Think about retaining the loyal staff even if they were hired in the previous "reign", they are the ones who believe in BlackBerry's success, unlike some who join for the high posts we are unable to get real good talents for.

    Pros

    Amazing brand and great products

    Cons

Terrible culture, no support, no teamwork, just people constantly stabbing others in the back

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Put solid performance management structures in place - fire the Global Sales Head, make a rule that no-one can have more than 10 DR's (Global Sales Head had 35+) - force management out into the markets to meet with customers and visit sales channels.

I have been working at BlackBerry full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Good work-life balance, Pressure at work is everywhere these days but flexibility is given to employees like WFH etc. Company listens to employee feedback. Good work culture, no micromanagement. I enjoy working here.

    Cons

Growth opportunities as i see it today a little limited. But you never know :)
Needs to work on better integration between various departments.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I worked at BlackBerry full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Opportunity to work with people on a different culture.

    Cons

I think RIM is not employee friendly though they have awesome benefits but still they didn't consider there employee as asset when they decided to streamline. at least the company made some austerity measure prior in kicking their employees on the spot.
