I worked at BlackBerry as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

Been there for a 8 months co-op. You learn a lot. Everyone gets a work BlackBerry. Lunch outings paid by the company. Ice cream Fridays. They accommodate those (Muslims, etc) who pray regularly during work hours in one of the Waterloo offices

    Cons

For a creative field, would be better to get rid of the office environment to promote collaboration. Don't expect to work there long.

Former Employee - Office Services Assistant in Waterloo, ON (Canada)
Former Employee - Office Services Assistant in Waterloo, ON (Canada)

    I worked at BlackBerry

    Pros

    -Enjoyed work culture and people
-Enjoyed opportunities to gain training, sponsored by the company
-Enjoyed a secondment during my time in Office Services - was impressed by the opportunity to gain experience outside my department
    -Enjoyed benefits program
    -Enjoyed extra Christmas holiday time

    Cons

-Sometimes found it difficult to achieve work/life balance with the "always on/always connected" corporate culture
-Many levels to the corporate ladder made change and advancement more time-consuming/difficult
-Corporate restructuring efforts resulted in the loss of too many good people, and resulted in the overwork of remaining employees. It was difficult to see a once-healthy company morale become significantly eroded toward the end of my time with the company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Although some changes to the company were necessary, it would be great to think that stability, incentives and work-life balance can still be offered to the remaining employees. I believe that the company can resurrect itself, but it will need employees with energy and drive to succeed. Treat them well, and they can make miracles happen! All the best.
