  1. The salary is competitive, if not good, but they will work you. Not a good place for work life balance

    Pros

Salary is probably pretty competitive and it is a culture of meritocracy

    Cons

Work live balance leaves a lot to be desired and the culture is pretty cut-throat at time. They don't really ever say thank you.

    Advice to Management

Give a little more and you will get a lot more

    Pros

flexible working, good work life balance, good job if you have a family life and career progression is unimportant.

    Cons

very rigid roles, not much opportunity for development or career progression.

    Advice to Management

managers that have been there a long time, seem to lose a lot of professionalism. Constantly swearing in large team meetings is commonplace, and they tend to feel all powerful as no one monitors the team closely to check the morale. It has culture of everyone for themselves.

    Pros

    Nice people
    very well run company
    Mobility is encouraged

    Cons

Compensation - they pay below market and the process is not transparent.

    Advice to Management

Start paying people properly - in line with or slightly above market rates. Bonus is paid tomorrow and I know of at least 6 people on my side of the floor who are actively looking for other jobs.

    Pros

Good at trying to maintain a small company ethos within a large firm.

    Cons

It is a large firm and it can take a lot of time to join all of the information sharing meetings which take place for locations, businesses, firm-wide etc.

    Pros

Competitive salary for finance sector internship, friendly people, fully involved and treated like a full-time employee. The culture at BlackRock seemed unique and from day one these values were engrained but they are very positive values to work by.

    Cons

Work at points was a bit low-level and monotonous and it would've been beneficial to know what I would've been working on before the internship began.

    Pros

A culture built around learning and advancement. I always felt they encouraged me to explore possibilities. On top of that it was clear the company always puts its clients first.

    Cons

A top heavy structure, i.e. a lot of directors and managing directors at the top of the ladder might make career progression in terms of gaining more responsibility slower than at other firms.

    Pros

Great Environment, BlackRock employees were friendly and engaging. Made you feel as if you would be making a massive difference within the firm.

    Cons

Have heard rumors of completely different culture when you actually work there. Compensation can be cannibalized in exchange for having the brand name on your resume, or so I hear.

    Pros

The firm is active in many parts of the financial services industry, and there is the potential to work with many different product and client groups in multiple regions of the world.

    Cons

Because the company was built through a series of acquisitions, the corporate culture varies quite a bit depending on where you work and what you do.
As is probably similar with other large global organizations, a good amount of time must be spent dealing with internal issues.
