Fast paced environment within a knowledgable team

Portfolio Analyst (Former Employee) Plainsboro, NJ

ProsBlackrock is a strong company and has the potential to advance any hard working individual into the right career path.

ConsSome team members are more helpful than other in the beginning training. It's a fast paced trading environment so unless you have a short learning curve, you will fall behind.

Advice to Senior ManagementProvide more insight to new employees on ways to improve their performance and offer one on one time to get feedback on what management can do to help a new employee.

Good First Job, But Not Great

Fixed Income Analyst (Former Employee) Plainsboro, NJ

ProsIt's one of the best financial companies in the biz. While it's Pretty cool to work with the top fund and money managers right out of school, you end up doing a lot of menial work, rather anything that creative or meaningful.

ConsNot very innovative and way too old school for me

    Overall good experience

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Plainsboro, NJ

Prosvery skilled coworkers, great brand name, flexibility with vacation (dependent upon your group), always looking for ways to improve, "if you're not first, you're last" mentality

Conslong hours, for a company making around $8bn the pay isn't great, perfection is satisfactory, anything less is failure, anything more is expected...this causes lots of stress

Advice to Senior Managementthe company can't operate without its operations group...pay us like you need us.

    Not really worth it

Analyst- AMG Retail (Current Employee) Plainsboro, NJ

    3. Great place to meet your next boss at your next company you work for.

    Cons1. Pay
    2. Management competance
    3. Too large after BGI merger.

Advice to Senior ManagementTry to hold on to talent whether it be by compensation or keeping them intellectually curious. The lack of both will lead to high turnover.

Great Company depending on what group you work for...

    Analyst (Current Employee) Plainsboro, NJ

Pros1. Name of Company on Resume
    2. Great learning environment if one chooses it to be
    3. CFA sponsorship

Cons1. Promotion abilities are limited due to poor management decisions within AMG-Retail Sales.
    2. Difference in culture between NYC office

Advice to Senior ManagementTalent retention, compensation and recognition needs to be more emphasized. Also, concept of one BlackRock should be advocated firmwide, including legacy ML divisions.
