I have been working at Blackbaud full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Company supports non profits which feels good to be a part of.
Many good people here that are fun to work with.

    Cons

With multiple acquisitions the culture has changed. Feeling like management wants the professional services team to be more like a Big 6 consulting firm than a product company with value add services. Part of the challenge is that the Blackbaud CRM product requires so much in services that services are a large portion of company revenue. That being the case....there is pressure to push margins up on services so they don't drag the company margins down. If you look at most software companies the services are a much smaller portion of revenue and product companies will take lower services margins to focus on product sales, partner enablement and customer success. But Blackbaud can't afford to do that with the product / services mix. This results in a push to make the professional services team feel a lot more like a large system integrator with higher margins and that was not the culture many signed up for in years past. Higher utilization targets, some would say unrealistic, are causing morale challenges.

I have been working at Blackbaud full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Great customers - almost makes it worth putting up with the cons
Very smart colleagues from across the globe
    Opportunities to travel

    Cons

Work life balance is terrible. You will be expected to bill no less than 35 hrs per week and will be punished (i.e. no upward movement) unless you exceed this mark.
Very little recognition for a 'job well done'. Do not expect any pats on the back, you will be treated like a resource and not a teammate or partner
High turnover rate due to burnout and lack of opportunities for growth
No clear metrics for roles; promotions are subjective at best
Charleston office definitely hires a template employee - fit the mold or you will be out of the door within a year or two
Pay is not competitive with national averages

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop hiring and promoting snarky jerks

I worked at Blackbaud full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Excellent benefits, NOC manager was flexible and approachable, the rest of the technicians were friendly, some of the NOC engineers shared their experience and knowledge. Compensation is industry standard. Work schedules were reasonable considering it's a 24/7 operation.

    Cons

Favoritism among certain employees. It's not fair for other technicians to carry the work load for others.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat all NOC employees fairly. Set expectations to get promoted out of the NOC.

    I worked at Blackbaud

    Pros

Great company to work for right out of college. Fair salary for the area and decent benefits. Nice facilities.

    Cons

They do not really recognize or value experience from outside of the company, you have to learn & perform the Blackbaud way without question or deviation. Not the best company to start at if you have worked for other organizations. Also very political "clickish" office with some serious racial undertones with very little diversity especially in middle to upper management.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Diversify and embrace the experience your employees bring that are not straight out of college, it can add value to your company.

I worked at Blackbaud full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

The workload is always high, but management did their best to ensure the work-life balance. They are also very open to telecommuting employees and reap the benefits.

    Cons

Blackbaud has acquired a lot of products that are still running although the technology is dated. Bad products are kept being supported, while some great products are neglected although they are the ones worth developing. Company does not provide much of personal growth opportunities in the technology sector and employee input is not valued.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take employees input on product development. It will not only ensure that business stays successful and profitable long term, but also make employees stay longer as they will see that their input is truly valued.

    Cons

Not a lot of upward mobility, and when there is it's not even worth it. Promotion to Senior Analyst is a joke

I worked at Blackbaud full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

The company does great things for the non-profit customers and it is a rewarding job knowing that you are helping nonprofit customers make a world a better place. However, nonprofits have a small shoe-string budget and cannot afford to spend a lot of money. Nonprofits fundraise for a living and a means to survive.

    Cons

The company is very political and you must play the game in order to get recognition and promotions. Pay is less than attractive with mediocre bonuses. The belief that hard work will win is a false reality. It is the staff member that brown-nose the most will move up in the chain while others watch. Rewards and recognitions are extremely unfair. If you don't make waves, you will be unnoticed. If you want your career to idle, this is the place to be. Technology is outdated at Blackbaud.

Staffing at nonprofits are minimal with high turnovers. Invoices/billing to nonprofits are scrutinized. When the economy sunk, so did the company. Bonuses are share and given to everybody including poor performers. If you want your career to idle and coast through the remainder of your professional life, this is the perfect place to be.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look at your seasonal veterans and ask yourself, why are they not promoted? Most that are marketable will leave and will find better job.
