I worked at Blast Radius full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

There are many bright, talented people who are fun and enjoyable to work with Worked on interesting projects for high profile clients Technical department is managed well, but other departments not as much

    Cons

There's been a salary freeze for the last couple years meaning people have been promoted without receiving an increase in pay. This company is extremely top heavy - if you are in management or client services the pay and overall employee value is high, but if you're in production (designers or developers) expect to be at the bottom of the food chain. This is in surprising contrast to companies where creative and technical talent is highly valued. Project and Client Managers are frequently out of touch with the time needed to properly complete work causing resourcing issues and terrible work/life balance at times. Overall employee morale is pretty low - it can be super-frustrating working here. So many meetings and planning followed by more meetings eats up budget/time for great work. Many longtime employees are leaving.

    Advice to Management

Start taking care of the people who take care of your company. The 2+ year salary freeze needs to be fixed pronto - then consider making salaries more competitive. Put the focus back into doing great cutting-edge work for your clients and winning awards - which will bring more companies knocking at your door instead of having to constantly pitch. For the love of god stop saying "synergy" in meetings.

I have been working at Blast Radius full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Nice office space and some nice people. Generally good work life balance.

    Cons

Terrible systems, poor pay, senior management does not communicate, creative leadership out of control, WPP are squeezing the life out. Toxic.

I have been working at Blast Radius full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Fun people, fun atmosphere, flexible hours.

    Cons

Terrible benefits (no 401k match, lame and largely unattainable sabbatical program instead of better holiday schedule, average health care, etc.). Absolutely awful communication and direction from upper management.

    Advice to Management

Hire a CEO who cares about their employees. Communicate, communicate, communicate! And for God's sake, join the 21st century and offer your US employees a 401k match (even if it's just a few percents).

I have been working at Blast Radius full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The people. The perks. The location.

    Cons

No leadership in Seattle, executives DO NOT listen to staff, dedicated employees are easily shoved aside.

    Advice to Management

We tried telling management to focus on Business Development in Seattle for months, years even... they didn't listen and now great employees are being forced out the door. Such a shame that Blast executives have wasted such great talent here. One minute you win a fancy quarterly award, the next, you're gone. Meanwhile, while Seattle is falling apart, our non existent travel budget is being over used and $200 meals are being expensed for steak dinners. Priorities are obviously not being taken seriously so loyal employees then get the short end of the stick. So many issues here I wouldn't even know where to start. Very very disappointing and at this time I wouldn't recommend that anyone join Blast Radius. Will you listen to your employees now? When will you learn?

I worked at Blast Radius full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Fantastic people and office culture in NY. Some cool accounts. Fun, laid-back environment, rarely worked late nights/great work-life balance. Wry Wednesdays (Weekly cocktails after hours in the office) are great. Managing Directors, Office Managers, Director-levels are all extremely friendly, approachable, and available within NY.

    Cons

Losing good employees & accounts fast in NY. Decisions & direction ultimately trickles down from Canada, which is ironic as they are not very involved in the day-to-day activities in satellite offices.

    Advice to Management

Be more involved. Provide compensation/raises to employees more frequently. (Although this is more of a WPP decision and out of BR's hands).

I have been working at Blast Radius full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Super fun office environment, brilliant coworkers, great quarterly social activities, food and beer always provided

    Cons

NOT ENOUGH WORK! This is seriously a great place to be a part of, but not when there is not enough work to go around. Feeling bored at a job is the worst feeling ever. If Blast can get some new work for solely the Seattle office, this place would be awesome again.

    Advice to Management

Seattle NEEDS a leader ASAP. Unless you want to lose all of your staff, you need to take care of this office and get new business in, and fill all open positions. Otherwise we're just stuck and unhappy.

I have been working at Blast Radius full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

It all comes down to the people. We get along, we do good work together, and we have fun around the office. The keg and the bar are good for morale, and the social committee does a good job of putting together events. There's music system in the office, which anyone can access and play whatever they want.

    Cons

Communication from upper management SUCKS. It's absolutely awful. There is no 401(k) match in the US. Haven't had a raise in more than 20 months. Growing tired of chasing the career advancement carrot. Most of the office is stuck with third-rate office chairs. Headquarters in Vancouver seems to hog new work, which leaves Seattle with Starbucks and little variety.

    Advice to Management

Fire the CEO. Listen to your people. Try over-delivering for once. Get your heads out of Canada and get 401(k) matching done already.

I have been working at Blast Radius full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Blast has some cool clients. Blast has also brought in some great creative and strategy talent to most of their offices.

    Cons

Terrible benefits in the US. NO 401K match!!! NO BONUSES or PAY INCREASES GIVEN (even after promotions were assigned) in the past 10 months, and only promises of "soon" moving forward. They pay less than other agencies. in the past 12 months they have lost more clients than they have gained. There is is little opportunity or emphasis on career advancement.

    Advice to Management

    Retire and move on.

    Pros

Fortune 500 clients in a wide range of industries Good opportunity to learn new skills

    Cons

No such thing as work life balance People do not work with honesty and integrity Advancement is directly correlated to who you know Employees are dispensable

    Advice to Management

Appreciate your employees and the hard work they do and reward them Seek client work that is interesting - small Facebook pages keep the lights on but don't elevate the company's profile
