I have been working at Blinn College part-time for more than a year

    Pros

Excellent environment to work. Fantastic coworkers. Everyone on campus is cordial, even if they do not know you.

    Cons

Sometimes, there are quite a few tasks to finish because departments are shorthanded. Many things to do, not enough people.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Remember that work loads should be distributed evenly. Putting too much on one employees shoulders makes it difficult to get things done.

I worked at Blinn College as a contractor for more than 3 years

    Pros

Great Communication among other part timers! Lots of help from other adjunct team members.

    Cons

office space for adjunct professors severely lacking in equipment, technical support and space. Not kept clean and often found that we cleaned it ourselves. Just not supportive for folks who were not considered full time. Would rather hire cheaper adjuncts, than to take full time hires and worry with benefits.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look at the part time help you are taking advantage of with lesser pay. We work as hard as full time staff and without the benefit of job security. We bring a lot of experience and positive energy! Hire us!

    Pros

    Flexible, calm and friendly environment.

    Cons

Low pay and low office space.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

A higher budget would increase employee satisfaction for both employees and students.

I have been working at Blinn College

    Pros

It has a very laid back environment, with very friendly people. The work is not difficult, and time can fly by when you are there.

    Cons

It can be understaffed at times, adding to your individual assignments. At times it can also get a little dull making the day go extremely slow

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Offer small promotions to workers after a year or 6 months on the job. Make sure that all shifts are properly staffed.

Former Employee - Housing Coordinator in Brenham, TX

    I worked at Blinn College

    Pros

    Easy workload
Free during the day for the most part
Spring break, Winter Break and summer off and paid
    Essentially no supervision or micromanagement

    Cons

    On call 24/7
    Work 7-midnight 7 days a week
    low pay
Dealing with many disrespectful, "thug" wannabe kids
meetings early in the morning that last for hours after long nights of dealing with hooligan kids
    job seems insignificant

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get rid of every Housing Coordinator position and have only 1-3 higher paying property management positions for the entire housing department. Pay these people well and have them actually do work as opposed to being on campus all the time "just in case". Weekends need to be off, with multiple RA's to take the disciplinary responsibility away from the property management positions.
