Pros
Great management at Block Communications.
Cons
Time comsuming but that's the nature of the business.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep up the good work.
Pros
There are some good people who work at some of the television stations. They work hard, try to treat you well, but have their hands tied behind their back due to corporate.
Cons
Small communications ownership group. Their newspapers are bleeding, which in turn places pressure on the television side of things, so bring in more revenue. So if you're at a newspaper, your job is on the chopping block. If you're in television, you're working hard to keep someone else's job on the newspaper side from disappearing.
Advice to Senior Management
Listen to your employees about their everyday frustrations. Boost morale by showing that you actually care about them. A stupid "suggestion box" doesn't cut it.
Pros
The Company is very technology driven. The benefit package is top notch and unmatched in the region or field.
Cons
Many times when employees have concerns it fall upon deaf ears in the lower and mid management ranks. The senior management tend to be very hands off and rely too heavily upon mid management to find out how the company is functioning. Lower and mid management puts on a happy face to the senior staff even if everything is crumbling around them. On the technological side there are very few people to turn to when there is a question in the field and lower management in many cases feels that they don't need to know any of the answers.
Advice to Senior Management
Senior management should two or three times a year go out into the field with technicians and installers to get a better grasp on the practices that they enact to see the effect it has on the subscribers and employees. This used to happen regularly but in the last few years they have gotten away from it.
Pros
Benefits were above averaget; Good working environment; Satisfactory pay; Buckeye worked hard to be provide the best customer service to the local communit and in the cable industry in general.
Cons
Pay was satisfactory because management addressed issues of low pay over the past 2 years; but it could still use some improvement. Reorganization was very stressful, and was not managed well. Through the reorg, TSR's were required to start taking video calls and information calls, rather than just the internet calls we were hired to take. There was a lot of pressure to increase job knowledge and answer phone calls. Customers are treated better than employees, for the most part.
Advice to Senior Management
Better communication with employees; when you give employees the opportunity to have input into change it shouldn't be just lip service, don't ignore their ideas. Continue to pay attention to pay.
Pros
Growth industry; company is just the right size - not too big so that you are a number, but not to small so that there are no opportunities; Buckeye offers excellent benefit package; offers many career opportunities; has great educational and development benefits and opportunities
Cons
24x7 operation; highly competitive industry; very fast rate of change can be hard to keep up with; requires an ability to adjust well to new services, and policies and procedures
Advice to Senior Management
Overall they are doing a good job. Continue to communicate openly with employees.
Pros
insurance, vacation, sick days, personal days
Cons
If your manager takes credit for your work and ideas. Your screwed. Your raises are based on your review. And you cannot get an A+ for the full raise. The effort to keep your pay down is extreme. It kills your insentive to go above and beyond.
Advice to Senior Management
at least keep pay up to inflation levels. Lip service is just wrong for compensation. I have worked here a long time and have had the same review no matter what I put out. It happens to always equal the same as the other people in my department. Even when I have taken on extra projects for the company when fellow employees openly avoided them. But yet there reveiw equals mine.
