Pros
The people were always great.
Cons
Management had to run the business in a dying industry. That's never good.
Advice to Senior Management
Move to CO and be done with it.
Pros
free movies and games
people you work with are great people, will become good friends
not outside
Cons
PAY NOT WORTH ALL THE STUFF YOU HAVE TO DO
repetitive
management thinks customers want bundles or passes. LEAVE THEM ALONE AND GET MORE IN DEMAND MOVIES
no pay increases
treaded like a rag doll by DM
Advice to Senior Management
stop with all the promotions and try and build a system that is effective for the customers. Stop trying to make unrealistic goals for the stores. Annual pay increases and raises would increase moral and make people want to work harder. The fact that a lazy person makes the same thing as someone who works their butt off is a joke.
Pros
Decent part-time job for anyone in college and want a little extra spending money. Free movie rentals every week to, but not enough to know all the products you are renting and selling.
Cons
Not the best management when it comes to senior management. Not enough benefits when it comes to keeping up with all the products you are renting and selling.
Advice to Senior Management
Senior management needs to be a little more involved in how the stores are run. Also they need to look into situations before making layoffs or fires.
Pros
Great people
Very popular and well-known brand worldwide
The compensation was competitive, if not great
Casual atmosphere
Jeans every day of the week!
Cons
Exceedingly poor and short-sighted management decisions
Bankruptcy
Layoffs
Top execs did not care about customers or employees
Vanishing benefits (no more 401(k) matching, higher insurance costs, lower insurance coverage, no bonuses, no raises)
Advice to Senior Management
Customers matter. Driving them away is a tried and true recipe for failure. Next time, try figuiring out what/where/how people want to buy instead of blindly commanding what/where/how you'd rather sell instead.
Pros
Most of the people there are into movies, or at least they get into movies while working there. the people become great friends.
Cons
discussion of pay is frowned upon - it's a very closed system, they try and keep it fun and light hearted so you don't realize how little you're being paid.
Advice to Senior Management
upper management needs to take a chance. stop reacting to changes in the movie business and innovate.
Pros
They could be moving in a positive direction if the new stratgies to obtain competitive advantages are executed and advertised properly.
Cons
Industry is struggling to get traffic into the stores, the company is downsizing, closing stores and expecting more and more from fewer employees and labor hours.
Advice to Senior Management
Have a better understanding of what the stores are expected to do every day, stop focusing on specific sales programs instead of overall store profitability (many of the key drivers we are forced to focus on actually hurt overall profitability), and consider revising hours of operation and closing for holidays such as Christmas to save labor hours, instead of forcing single coverage with all the expectations that the work of two or more employees will get accomplished during one shift. It's not possible.
Pros
It's nice to see the movies before they come out
Customer Interaction can fun
Cons
The push you to sell too many programs
Stores are closing all the time
Prices are going sky high
The upper mgt is not professional
Pros
Free movies, games. Customers were great and peers were supportive. Mid level managers were incompetent.
Cons
Morons working in mid level management fields who can make a decent decision.
Advice to Senior Management
All of the good district and region level managers left. You're stuck with moron yes-men who can't think for themselves. Clean house. Start over. Plenty of talent left in the stores, promote some of it.
Pros
flexible hours, insurance available for part time employees after working with the company for a month or so, and of course...free rentals
Cons
It's a retail job and as such you have to deal with the sales pressure, not enough hours were available
Advice to Senior Management
Provide more feedback to employees about how they are doing. Also, make sure to let employees know ahead of time about upcoming deals to be featured in the store. Lastly, provide more training to employees.
Pros
free rentals
friendly co-workers
occasional commision
flexible schedule
Cons
ludicrous sales goals
horrible communication
sell or you are fired mentality
Advice to Senior Management
Try spending one day in an actual store and trying to sell customers everything that you tell your employees to sell. customers do not want to be harassed to buy a pass or a candy bundle everytime they come in the store. It is obvious that upper management in this company has no clue what the customers really want. It is also obvious that you do not care one single bit about your employees. maybe you will finally get the picture when you don't have a job in about a year because you have driven the company into the ground!
