Pros
Fun, friendly, 10 free rentals.
Cons
Well, the obvious issue that it is now out of business.
Advice to Senior Management
Don't pay other people's debts.
Pros
free movies and games
works well around schedule
customers are great
lots of coupons for customers\
lots of sales
Cons
sales are pushed too hard its all the company cares about not the actual customer
lost of confusion in the company between what different levels of management wants
store managers not adequately trained
Advice to Senior Management
customers are getting turned off because the company is practically begging for sales. dont push the sale aspect of everything so hard that all the employees are stressed out freaking out and the customers are tired of being pushed to purchase the same things ALL THE TIME EVERY VISIT
Pros
There isn't a high customer volume, nor a lot of products to scan. As an employee, you also get five to ten free DVD/Game/Blue-Ray rentals a week. Its a good idea to use these free rentals because you will constantly be asked how something was. You also get to rent movies a week before they come out.
Cons
It is basically a typical retail environment. You will deal with a lot of customers who are angry about due dates and other mundane policy's that change constantly and without merit. Normally, the stores are relaxed environments consisting of movie nerds. Blockbuster as a corporation is run pretty poorly and unfortunately that reflects on the individual stores. You will also have to sell, sell, sell, so it is important that you are comfortable with harassing total strangers about loyalty programs. Sometimes these programs are a real deal and sometimes they're not.
Advice to Senior Management
Blockbuster needs to have equal rates with RedBox and Netflix, if they want to compete. Having negotiations with certain studios to get exclusive titles, a month in advance is a plus.
Pros
movie rentals
fast pace
great benefits
Cons
long hours
heavy workload with no payroll to support it
favorite phrase by upper management is this is not a flavor of the month initiative except it always was
corporate deosn't solicate feedback from the field
Advice to Senior Management
have two way communication with field employees
Pros
Many locations, ability to manage your own business, good local support team
Cons
the last few years the business was going down and cost cutting and closing locations and no morale
Pros
Working with the public , working with good people. The work schedule was good for me. The work was not the same everyday.
Cons
Had to work nights, Had to put up stock, did not get discounts and it lead to me being burnt out on movies
Pros
If your store manager is easy gtoing, then you won't regret working there.
Cons
Open all holidays, and no rewards for what you get done.
Advice to Senior Management
No
Pros
It's a great job where you can learn very basic management traits. You can be promoted quickly to a shift leader, but you will most likely stay in this position for several years until the management above you either quits or is fired.
Cons
They promote anyone. You could end up with a shift leader who doesn't put any effort in doing anything above the bare minimum. Another big con about Blockbuster is that you could be there for 10 years and still be getting paid $10 an hour. They rarely give raises and if they do it's very small, like 5 to 10 cents every two years.
Advice to Senior Management
Your employees need more pay just because they have to endure angry customers on a daily basis due to your outrageous late fee charges and high prices.
Pros
Can watch movies during shift.
Co-workers around the same age.
Works well with school schedule.
Good interaction with people if you're the friendly sort.
Cons
Some people are pigheaded..
Lots of customer complaints.
Got rid of bonuses.
Small pay.
Little opportunity for advancement.
Store closed forever.
Advice to Senior Management
Listen to the people who actually work on the floor instead of making dumb decisions about where to take the company.
Pros
The customers are great, great product
Cons
Management is worked into the ground, pushed and stressed to the max
Advice to Senior Management
Allow more hours for labor so tasks can be completed without SM's working 70+ hrs a week, more employees working allows for a greater experience for the customer
