Pros
Free Movies, the pay wasn't too bad
Cons
Incompetent senior management, Jim Keyes and his cronies made out like bandits in the bankruptcy and screwed a lot of long term people of their severances
Pros
They have good management training programs. If your fairly smart and very dedicated you can be promoted to store manager fairly quickly.
Cons
Corporate sets crazy goals for us hit but doesn't back us up with the support we need to achieve them. Communication can be contradictory at times. Ends up being lots of double work due to upper management decisions.
Advice to Senior Management
When looking to streamline operations seek advice from those who actually run the business. Listen to your ground troops. We have the customer interaction and the knowledge of what changes can be made to boost revenue and slim down our bottom line.
Pros
Easy work and no one goes in to rent movies anymore so its fairly dead. Free rentals are nice too.
Cons
Really old computer hardware and software. It was really frustrating to use sometimes. It's a dying industry with really no realistic room for growth. Lots of micro-managing.
Advice to Senior Management
Stop doing the useless programs like having employees ask for pre-orders on EVERYTHING. Too much micro-managing as well. It's hard to do a good job working when people are breathing down your neck all the time.
Pros
Lots of areas to streamline processes.
Cons
Things change so quickly it is hard to keep up
Pros
If you like movies it is a good place to work
Cons
Things change from day to day. Rollercoaster
Advice to Senior Management
Keep good employees
Pros
5 movie rentals a week. Was a good job for high school student would not want to be working there now.
Cons
out of business now co workers not sharpest tools in the box not a career just a good job for young person
Advice to Senior Management
what advice or feedback blockbuster is out of business to bad had some fun times there la al lal a
Pros
5 free movies a week.
Employee discount
Cons
Will work by yourself for long hours /all shift
Most days not even able to take a lunch
Work Holidays
Open late.
Benefits suck
Could never seem to figure out what they wanted to sell or force employees to push that week.
Then they would change their minds and make you sell something different the next week and forget about what they were trying to push the week before.
Advice to Senior Management
Nothing really the stores should all be out of business within 2 yrs.
Pros
Free movies. Lets you learn about customer service much better, since you are constantly interacting with people and asking their opinions.
Cons
Low pay. Ancient computer system. This company desperately needs to update to the modern age - they still use dial-up internet!
Advice to Senior Management
Think of new ways to sell movies to people. take note of how RedBox is doing it, as well as Netflix.
Pros
The team is awesome. I've worked for Blockbuster for many years and it has been great. I've learned so much and the experience I've gained is invaluable.
Cons
There really wasn't a downside until the bankruptcy and the sell to Dish. Dish benefits are horrible. The amount of vacation time I earn has decreased, the medical plan has an extremely high deductible and there are no copays. The employee pays all expenses until the deductible is met. Dish is not an employee friendly employer.
Pros
-Very customer interaction driven
-Fairly easy
-Free movies and Games
Blockbuster varies so much from store to store you have a chance to find a great place to work that is one of the best accommodations for college students. They allow part-time managers so even part time employees have a chance to move up.
Cons
-Paranoid work environment
-Always looking over your shoulder
-Impossible sales goals
-Little Job security
You need to be able to deal with the stress of not being trusted at all and constantly looking over your shoulder for some sneak visit to catch you doing something wrong. Prepare to become paranoid of everyone that walks in the door. The upper management (district and regional) are so divorced from reality I'm not even sure they know what company they work for or what Blockbuster is about. Also nothing in this company stays the same, policies change often and usually make no sense.
Advice to Senior Management
Please show some continuity between policies and do not change so often as it is killing customer relations. Have some faith in your employees and don't treat them like they are guilty constantly. However on the store levels you guys are awesome and keep up the good work.
