    I worked at Blockbuster

    Pros

free in-store and online movie rentals, 20% discount on confections, flexible schedules, steady and friendly customers. customers bring you lunch and dinner on holidays

    Cons

despite my excellent customer service, organizing successful promotional events and earning 120% of financial store goals, the company still went out of business. my performance at the store level doesn't matter if the CEO doesn't perform well. being open 365 days a year and being schedule and opening shift after I closed the night before sucks

    Advice to Management

show appreciation for all employees, not just management.

    Pros

Fast paced fun job. Something new happening all the time. New product every week. Never a chance for anything to get old or routine.

    Cons

Was a shame that the company could not have seen the value in a smaller version of the stores that could have still served the millions of people that still wanted to just go and get a movie

    Advice to Management

More open to change in the way customers want their product.

    Pros

great management and wonderful people to work with. it was great job ans lucky to be a part of it until the end when they closed their last stores in new york.

    Cons

only downside was that they barely gave raises and they forced you to sell dish and if you didnt sell it then you would get a write-up, but they never implented that rule so it cant be a true downside.

    Pros

Was able to talk about movie, tv, and video game interests with customers, which made conversations easy. It was a pretty easy job, mostly busy work and handling transactions. Employees were able to rent a certain number of items a week for free, including pre-releases.

    Cons

Pay wasn't great. The work itself wasn't hard, but the customers could get pretty nasty. They seemed to think we could track people down to make them return overdue items like some kind of movie bounty hunter. They complained constantly about the prices, as if it were our fault they kept rising. There were the cheap ones too, that tried to get their money back for things they shouldn't. The biggest problem I had was the constant goals that needed to be met. No one wanted the packages because Netflix and Redbox were becoming really popular, and they still expected us to sell to every customer.

    Advice to Management

Chill with the goals. There are some people that you can just tell do not want to spend a single minute longer in the store then they have to, and many of the customers weren't there frequently enough to warrant special offers.
