Pros
-Excellent part time job for a student going to school.
-Excellent entertainment perks, as of now employees can rent 10 movies for free each week including movies not out yet.
Cons
-Pay is typically minimum wage.
-Open all year long and all holidays.
-If pulled into a manager position don't expect much leeway room on the schedule, typically managers only open or close.
Advice to Senior Management
The recent development of being bought by DISH was excellent but the push for the Blockbuster stores themselves to push customers to purchase DISH seems flawed. This in a sense is due to the fact that a typical customer at any given point typically only knows the store as what it actually is a film distribution center and nothing more or less.
Pros
Flexible hours. Free rentals. Easy pace.
Cons
Hard to get hours during slow parts of the year. Low pay. Management usually gets bonuses while CSRs get nothing for doing most of the work.
Advice to Senior Management
Less focus on sales and more focus on servcing customers needs.
Pros
Well, while I wokred there I got free movie rentals
Cons
Working on Sunday night sucks
Advice to Senior Management
more stores
Pros
Free movies. Great members. Staff friendly. Pay was great . Loved the Coaching and developing of team.
Cons
Some sales promos were out of our hands ,but were told if we didn;t hit priorities we would be written up . No write ups came about.
Worked alone 4 out of 5 shifts, entire shifts.
Pros
lots of fun. Staff was a blast
Cons
very low pay (which is expected)
Advice to Senior Management
None
Pros
Sales/ customer service experience.
If you can sell dish subscriptions you get a $50 bonus for each sale.
Most everyone I've worked with at the stores are very fun and easy to get along with.
Cons
Benefits package isn't the greatest.
High stress on sales performance.
We don't always get enough required product for refreshing store shelves whether it be a fair amount of popular new release titles or confection to up-sell.
Pros
Free movie rentals, fun coworkers
Cons
Upper management has no respect for employees. Unachievable sales goals, but hours based on sales.
Advice to Senior Management
Appreciate your employees more and get real.
Pros
Flexible working hours and generally pleasant coworkers.
Cons
If you can't manage to reach outrageous sales goals, like selling 20 special membership programs at $15/month a pop on a beautiful sunny Saturday, no one cares... you still get chewed out. No raises for retail-level employees; not even managers.
Advice to Senior Management
Instead of taking millions of dollars in bonuses and screwing your base out of $0.15 on the hour raises we get ANNUALLY, why don't you do something for the people at the foundation and pay us more for all the work you expect out of us?
Pros
Great customers who has to adjust with no prices and due dates
Cons
Very disorganized! No recognitions or updates on business
Advice to Senior Management
Also received a letter this April 2011 and told me that a disc with my w2 information went missing and that it wasn't stolen? But that they would have me enroll in a credit fraud program for a year to protect my identity. I sign up and it's a fee for it? I'm so upset that my information is out there to be used.
Pros
the hiring process was easy.
Cons
pay is low, boring job.
Advice to Senior Management
promote more often.
