I worked at Blockbuster full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Easy job, not a lot of responsibility. At the time, you could rent 5 movies a week. Get the new release DVDs a week earlier than their release date.

    Cons

Boring. Mindless tasks repeated over and over

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Lower prices for consumers, more relaxed rental agreements. Pay employees more and train them better.

    Pros

Great regular customers and the ability to develop great relationships with them. Cant beat the laid back uniform during summer months--sneakers and shorts.

    Cons

A vicious circle of bad ideas over and over again. No pay raises in 6 years---rather the option to accept pay cuts or you can take unemployment

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Pros

We were a great team, everyone got along, and we had great leadership. Pay was reasonable and in my case, even more.

    Cons

Dish, being the new owners, were constantly changing and micromanaging policies and even our rental structure. Obviously, they then closed us, even though our store was profitable.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

In our store, things were great. All of our problems were at the corporation level.
