    Pros

It's nice to work for a company that values it's employees with decent benefits...and covered parking!

    Cons

Already short staffed and layoffs keep happening. Not much offered in the way of career advancement. Pay could be better.

  2. Oppressive, 1950's style of top down executive management.

    Pros

Good pay, some good employees, several good managers. Good company mission.

    Cons

Stagnant leadership that rules top down without seeking input from staff. CIO that constantly pushes staff without any recognition, praise or respect. Blatant favoritism goes unchecked Little accountability of managers makes for a toxic work environment. Lack of long term opportunities and CIO micromanagement that focuses on non-value added activities.. Siloed departments that don't work well together on projects. Long term executives (not all) that take a simplistic view of the amount of work that staff can accomplish without burning out.

    Advice to Management

Bring more outsiders into the organization to infuse some new ideas, practices and insights. Focus on better leadership and staff empowerment without micromanaging staff several levels below. Reward individuals for working effectively on project teams, and promote directors and managers that are eager to share information and collaborate on projects.

    Pros

There are some great people working at Blood Systems corporate office and in the centers and they are all about saving lives.

    Cons

Short sighted management is more focused on reaction instead of planning. Business decisions leave us scratching our heads and wondering if we'll be the next ones RIFFED.

    Advice to Management

Consolidate director and manager positions instead of laying off all of the workers. Analyze which ones have cost the company so much money and jobs and let them go. Hold people accountable and don't promote people who have bad judgment.

  5. No growth potential

I have been working at Blood Systems full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Some of the employees are great to work with. Some employees are dedicated to the vision of saving lives.

    Cons

There is no employee development and they do not promote from within. If you are a hard worker they will prevent you from moving to other areas because they want to keep you where you are. They are laying off many of the worker bee employees and forcing those that stay to take on more while they create more management positions. Very top heavy company.

  6. Not the best place for growth potential.

    Pros

There are some very nice people who work here. This company also has a low tolerance for employees who do not follow the RITE values of the organization. The benefits package is better than some other organizations.

    Cons

Some positions do not have opportunity for growth within the position or outside of the position. There are many dead end jobs here.

Exeutive Management is also kept in the dark about issues with major projects.

    Advice to Management

    Growth Opportunity
Examine the roles in your organization. Make sure every employee has opportunity for growth. An area of focus for this would be departments that have recently had high turnover rates. LackDo this before losing more key personnel.

    PMO Troubles
Get your information from multiple sources about the progress of major projects that are behind schedule. Don't blindly trust what you initially hear. Hold project managers accountable to timelines. Make sure the dates they give you are realistic based on workload of staff accountable for doing the work.

Sell the company to another competitor and retire because you have no business running a company.

    Pros

    Covered Parking
If you have given up on your career and want to collect a measly paycheck this is the place for you!

    Cons

Lackluster upper-management who make questionable decisions
Hiring freeze in certain departments and areas and absolutely no replacement hires
Uses the "money is tight" phase when convenient (lower level gets dumped on while upper management line their pockets)
Expect to work long hours with no reward whatsoever

    Advice to Management

Sell the company to another competitor and retire because you have no business running a company.

    Pros

Lots of truly dedicated, long term employees, management respects staff and at least tries to preserve a decent work/life balance.

    Cons

The blood banking industry has fallen on very hard times. The business environment is that of declining sales, declining sales prices, increased competition and increased costs... basically the "going out of business model" and there is nothing the company can do about that. The entire industry needs to rethink how it does business and BSI management is failing miserably at this.

    Advice to Management

Never tell your employees that you don't know what you're doing. We get that the industry is changing and that you're trying to figure things out. But keep in mind... THAT'S YOUR JOB... TO FIGURE IT OUT!!!!! That's why they're paying you the (relative) big bucks!

    Pros

Great benefits, good compensation, forward thinking organization overall.

    Cons

Highly political in some areas within the organization.

    Advice to Management

Values sound good on paper, but when your executives don't believe them or practice them, a hostile work environment is created. Regional management is allowed to treat employees with contempt and open hostility.
