Pros
fancy office and you are allowed to show off by inviting personal gusts anytime.
Work-wise - trading floor environment, no privacy - which is good, as you see your coworkers and share. they pay for your exams you passed them. decent compensation package.
Cons
as company grew - so did bureaucracy. very often you just waist time on absolutely unnecessary and annoying things.
no mater how hard you work - you not gonna get what you 'think' you deserve - the only way is to either move to another department or to a different employer.
Advice to Senior Management
you want employees to be flexible - so allow they to have flexible schedule as well.
switch to 8hr/day instead of 9hr/day
Pros
Young culture
Innovative
Aggressive when it comes to competition
Teamwork
Cons
Pay
Tend to promote managers that were good as employees but not necessarily good with leading people
Advice to Senior Management
Stray far away from a culture of micro managing in the sales department. Overall, a great place to work and begin your career or a great place to finish the last 10 years or so of your career.
Pros
A lot of good people to work with, technically talented and diverse. A lot of interesting problems to solve in finance and technology (although this will vary by the team you're on - derivatives in my case) Compensation and benefits are pretty good.
Cons
For someone interested in working on finance, it can be a bit stifling since FSDs tend to get a bit roughshod into their technical roles.
Advice to Senior Management
It might be good to have more communication from management and foresight about where the business is going - requirements change very frequently and often FSDs are only given new requirements shortly before they're asked to complete them. Lots of turnover in some areas causes a lot of lost effort. Sometimes hard to tell what managers think about your performance.
Pros
Intelligent employees, sufficient vacation time, positive work environment
Cons
Tendency to micromanage, work from home is still a new concept and not widely accepted by management, and not allowed if you have children at home, not much flexibility for women with children.
Pros
Excellent resources at your disposal; dedicated colleagues; lots of in-house expertise; management will give you the tools you need. Free food is nice though hardly spectacular.
Above average pay and benefits
Strong pride and conviction that Bloomberg does it best.
Deep commitment to quality (though "quality" can be oddly defined at times.)
Cons
Micromanagement, and all the sins that come with. Very little room for creativity or autonomy.
Pros
The culture and colleagues make it a great place to work. good pantry. fresh food and free coffee. fast pace working style is pretty wall street style. expanding firm.
Cons
less opportunities to grow. hard to get yourself promoted. Pay raise slowly. Reward less for exceptional work, and treat people more equally.
Advice to Senior Management
Create grown opportunities for new talent, Make sure to take care of career progression for employees! More frequent feedback would also be a good idea. (Also maybe move away from the metrics system?)
Pros
You are recognized for the good work to do.
You are also given freedom to be entrepreneurial and explore different ideas.
You learn a lot and people are generally quite friendly.
Cons
Pay is ok but not competitive enough vis a vis similar companies.
Micromanagement at times and metrics overload at times.
Advice to Senior Management
Pay needs to be increased. Reduce micromanagement; you've trained your employees well, trust them. Overall a great company to work for.
Pros
Training program/Opportunities to learn
Benefits
Work environment
Cons
Goals of the firm may nto be in line with employee concerns.
Pros
good location, good healthcare plans, big company
food bar is good, work to life balance is sorta good for most of the time
Cons
could be stressful while catching a dealine, yet the work is not that challenging
career path is kinda limited...
skills used in work are too specific
Advice to Senior Management
get things done is always important to bloomberg, but doing things well would benefit the company in the long term
Pros
The flat corporate structure and 24 hour pantry promote dialogue and teamwork in the workplace.
Cons
Departmental segmentation makes workforce unitized.
Advice to Senior Management
Try to instill greater allegiance to Bloomberg L.P. rather than just to your department.
