Small part-time job with Bloomberg Institute as a campus ambassador. Thought it was a great experience.

I have been working at Bloomberg L.P. as an intern (more than an year)

    Pros

The people I get to communicate with to fulfill my duties are awesome. My manager is super attentive and quick to respond and I feel like I can come to her about any problems I may be having with promoting the Bloomberg Assessment Test on my campus

    Cons

At first the program was less structured but it has gotten way better. It's also harder to keep all the ambassadors accountable.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep improving by listening to ambassadors like you have been!

    Pros

They work-life balance here is great. The office culture was fun, but hard working

    Cons

Technology within the terminal was hard to use. Not enough time spent for training there.

I worked at Bloomberg L.P. full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    Office culture, solid base pay,

    Cons

Metrics aren't realistic at times, numerous leadership changes in the non-core businesses resulted in a lack of direction and overall poor performance of said business units. Even if you don't work for one of these units it will directly impact your bonus.. So it matters!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Put leaders with a strong Bloomberg background in charge of the various business units. DC needs help!

I have been working at Bloomberg L.P. full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

    Pay is good
    Free food in every building
Some very sharp people work there

    Cons

Corporate culture does not seem to promote cross-departmental communication
Open seating (no offices/cubicles) not for everyone
They confuse "agility" with "lack of structure"
Everything needed "right away" without much planning

I have been working at Bloomberg L.P. full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Access to the top executives at public companies, working with top notch people, competitive salary

    Cons

This isn't one of those work as a team, feel good companies. Employees are worked to exhaustion, under demanding and often unkind circumstances. After the employee is burned out they either leave to save themselves or management boots them out. Bloomberg has been called an electronic sweatshop. That is accurate. Favorites are well taken care of. Everyone else is expendable. Very strict writing style. Totally editor driven organization. Reporters have little say.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

A little kindness would boost morale.

    Pros

This is a Great company that is well poised be a big player in the Marketplace for a very long time. They offer great benefits and they do take care of their valued employees. This is a very dynamic, never a dull moment, environment. Once your in, there are abundant opportunities for movement within the company, both locally and internationally.

    Cons

It used to be a lot more tight knit, when I first started, 15+ years ago. This is an unfortunate byproduct of maximum growth over the years. Personally I think it was a fair trade to give up some of the closeness of days, past. Fortunately, the closeness comes from your work group now.

I have been working at Bloomberg L.P.

    Pros

Excellent benefits and excellent opportunities for taking classes to further your skills.

    Cons

Micromanagement. Cameras watching your every move. Culture of distrust. Upper management tells you they want transparency but the managers tell you to "keep your mouth shut". They judge you by how many hours you are at the office and not by how efficient you are, how much work you get done or the quality of the work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more open minded about new ways of doing things.
