Good-hearted culture but not very professional and lacking respect for employees

Product Manager (Current Employee) New York, NY

ProsLeadership is kind and caring, especially compared to Macy's; lots of opportunity for learning.

ConsCompensation and work-life balance are tough. Plus lots and lots of drama with Macy's. You never get to feel like you have done a good job.

Advice to Senior ManagementSituation with Macy's makes this job very stressful - so it has to be adequately compensated and otherwise rewarded to make it worthwhile.

Prosgood pay, great discount especially during double discount, which happens about once a month

Consmanagers spend time gossiping and smoking rather than learning what its like on the selling floor, they are completely disconnected and repetitive

    Excellent Place to Work

Sales Manager (Current Employee) San Francisco, CA

ProsYou work with great people, great fashion, and for a great company. Generous PTO and comp time.

ConsJunior to Senior level management jump is difficult. Need to be able to relocate to really grow.

    Great people, cumbersome management style

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsThe people are great! Very concerned about well-being of associates. Likes to empower associates.

ConsIt's a challenge to get anything significant done and there is a lack of accountability and communication.

Advice to Senior ManagementSet more concrete and elevated standards for your associates. There are a lot of managers that feel powerless due to the constant inquiries of how the associates would like to be managed and not enough confidence in the ability of their management team to manage.

Little room for growth even if you're smart & hardworking...watch out for rampant sexism

Marketing (Current Employee) New York, NY

Proswork-life balance, friendly & fun peers

ConsLow salary raises, little room for growth unless you're a male, outdated systems and technology, people at the very top are very old and very out of touch

Advice to Senior ManagementValue your employees and learn that giving employees just slightly bigger raises would help stop the ridiculous amount of turn-over that goes on in the central offices

    Great Discount, Horrible Senior Management.

RTW Specialist (Former Employee) King of Prussia, PA

ProsHourly Pay, Vendor Commissions, and Sales Performance Commission.
Working with High End brands that lead to amazing job opportunities.
Compensated overnight vendor conclaves paid for by the companies to preview the upcoming seasons' merchandise.

ConsWeak management team that criticizes what you don't do without proper training.
No matter how far you excel in sales, company is never satisfied.
Managers throw their team under the bus, in constant fear they're going to lose their jobs.
    Overtly strict dress code.
Company's return policy that customers consistently take advantage of.

Advice to Senior ManagementValue the attributes the staff YOU hire contribute to the company instead of devaluing them, and provide proper training for the job they were hired to do.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

Draw Commission only helps the company not the employees

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsVery sweet and caring group of people when they aren't chasing a commission.

ConsVery liberal return policy kills the sales associates' paychecks.

    The Kooples Specialist

Brand Specialist (Former Employee) New York, NY

ProsA discount, that would've been helpful had I actually made commission.

ConsManagement, pay, scheduling, ridiculous policies, draw vs. commission is ridiculous

Advice to Senior ManagementI was hired as a specialist at the 59th & Lex flagship location for a new French-concession. Many people were excited that the brand had arrived stateside, while Management treated us like the red-headed step-child. We were never included in the happenings in our department. It was impossible to make money when the company allows customers to return anything, anytime...no questions asked.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend
