I have been working at Bloomingdale's full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

the atmosphere and the people were the best part. interesting customers and interactions with them made the workday fly by.

    Cons

being a busy store, it is understandable that things get messy, but this store was unreasonable.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

more precense of management on the floor and more willingness to help those who are new.

I have been working at Bloomingdale's

    Pros

Associate appreciation has some great deals, you can find designer clothes for less than $50 on sales racks. Most coworkers are kind and understanding. Great vacation days and paid days off. Able to call out a certain amount of times in given semester without repercussions. More understanding than most other corporate retail jobs about absence and sickness.

    Cons

Customer service is just not a concern unless you are making above average sales. The company only cares about making your sales goal and client sales, therefore if you work in an area with a higher price point, you are more likely to get promoted regardless of your interactions with customers or good reviews from customers. Sales and client goals are high without enough pay to warrant the amount of work. Management is not concerned with the treatment of sales associates. Hours are long and miserable sometimes, pay is mediocre.

I have been working at Bloomingdale's

    Pros

Can be fun, a diverse team in the mix

    Cons

Over staffed / highly competitive and we get hit on returns against commission. Customers treat bloomingdales as a high end fashion library, they purchase garments, wear them, then return unlaundered for a full refund - bloomingdales return policy is open ended therefore encouraging this 'leasing' system.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

bloomingdales choose to offer an open ended return policy - which is fine - but it is unfair associates are the ones who get hit up to and beyond 180 days!!!

I have been working at Bloomingdale's

    Pros

There are no pros- do not work at Chestnut Hill Bloomingdales

    Cons

The executive team is cold, and I would not be exaggerating to say they probably couldn't tell you the names of the majority of employees.

They rarely promote from within and minorities are not promoted or given management roles.

The pay rate is low and they have been known to purposely sabotage people reviews to prevent them from receiving a raise.

During the holiday season executives receive annual bonuses. However hourly, non-commissioned employees do not. The only way to make additional money during the season is with overtime. Unfortunately, the operation manager's bonus is dependent on keeping payroll on budget.. So that means the majority of the support staff sees no extra pay during the holidays.

The company is owned by Macy's, so increasingly becoming less of a luxury department store

One of the worst employee discounts in the business

Again I must stress, the worst executive team ever, they genuinely feel nothing but disdain for their employees

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Smile! Speak to people, learn people's names. Don't hide in your office all day. Lead by example. Appreciate your talented staff and promote from within. Don't just preach about diversity, go out and recruit diversity.
