Current Employee – been working at Bloomingdale's

ProsFlexible hours where you can swap shifts with one of your colleagues. Great employee discount if you don't mind signing up for the bloomingdale's credit card.

ConsThe communication level between managements are not great, things always gets lost in translation. There's not a lot of room to grow, the only movement that you'll ever make in the company is moving of departments and no promotion is granted.

Advice to Senior ManagementBeing the best of the best does not motivate employees to work their best. Being noticed and compensated for a job well done will.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend

Current Employee – been working at Bloomingdale's full-time for more than a year

ProsAs a company they really reach out and support their local communities via philanthropy. Most of the co-workers offer support that is lacking from direct management.

ConsThe management is quite arrogant, some of them are just bullies and truly believe the employee handbook does not apply to them. They have zero respect for associates as people with life outside the compound of the store. They preach a unity and support way of management, but practice a very caste and "me"-centric, disassociated style of management. They have trained the customers to be entitled with zero passable public manners. The customers are as abusive as the management.

Advice to Senior ManagementUpper management has a very tired and antiquated way of visiting the stores, they come for a big parade and ego stroking. All the store ends up doing is putting on their Sunday best, over their combat fatigues. The denial of what is wrong is glossed over with the delusion of what they think it is or should appear to be. They should come in unannounced, walk the back halls, observe people before the store opens.
Are associates and managers walking the store on their own or as a team to see what is new?
Are they bringing their best selling items to all store meetings?
As visitors are they observing the shoppers and their habits, good and bad?
Sadly none of this ever happens.

How about introducing yourselves to housekeeping! They have the most thankless job in the building and most of management walk by them without even saying hello, let alone acknowledging their presence, and they are doing a job which management views as beneath them!
Rule number one as a manager, know people's names and never ask them to do anything you wouldn't do yourself!

This could be a really fun and current company if they could let go of what they once were, and relish in the fact of what they are today.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

Former Employee – worked at Bloomingdale's

ProsThe best thing about working in Bloomingdale's was the discount.

ConsManagement uses unfair work tactics when dealing with it's employees, If you are willing to play the game, then you can become their "Golden Bee" Hard work and loyalty means nothing to them unless you are willing to play the game.

Advice to Senior ManagementIf management wants respect, then management must give respect
