I have been working at Bloomington Hospital full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

    Decent benefits and starting pay.

    Cons

As Bloomington Hospital is becoming more like the rest of IU Health some of its good benifits have been taken away and many of its extra perks, eg. daycare, cheap procedures for employess and such have disappeared to be more in line with what the system offers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop ignoring the fact that your lab employees are overworked and undercompensated

I worked at Bloomington Hospital full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

The HR department was extremely helpful. People take pride in what they do and being professional. Education reimbursement.

    Cons

It is a busy hospital. There are always opportunities to pick up extra hours, because there was often a need for more nurses.

I worked at Bloomington Hospital full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Good pay, good benefits, flexible time off and good PTO accounts

    Cons

Poor training, unless you're a nurse or directly patient care related, you're considered garbage.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get out of your office and look into why so many people quit their jobs here. Treat your employees better; like a person and not like a number or dollar sign.

    I worked at Bloomington Hospital

    Pros

I worked for my all-time favorite boss at Bloomington Hospital. I really liked almost all of the staff and the environment was so positive that the few negative people never really got to me.
I worked at a Promtpcare, doing more paperwork than work with clients and it was easy to get tied to your desk, but my admin encouraged getting up every so often for very quick breaks throughout the day. I LOVED that - Bloomington seems very concerned about the health of not only its patients, but its employees, too.

    Cons

I remember difficulty getting full time status with the coordinating benefit opportunities. It was kind of something you had to work towards. But mgmt. promoted where they could.

I have been working at Bloomington Hospital

    Pros

Stability. One could devote 30 or more years there fairly easily. Weathers economic downturns well.

    Cons

They are in a constant budget crisis, even long before the economy went south. Something is wrong with the budget model/process. Work/Life balance is bad. You don't have the feeling you can enjoy your time away from work because of the pressures. Many people in upper positions are too rooted in bygone methods and attitudes, making change extremely difficult.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management is not forward thinking enough and process is so slow as to be paralyzing. Younger individuals from outside of healthcare may help bring about change.

    Pros

Positive work environment and great co-workers.

    Cons

Cafeteria food is good, but not enough rotation of selections.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep doing what your doing and hiring the right people for the job.
