    Pros

Ok company if you're kick starting your career, decent benefits, slightly below competitive salaries, unless you're target is at the executive level.

    Cons

Your career is what you make, that being said - sometimes being in the right environment can make all the difference. I wouldn't recommend this company to a top performer who wants to be challenge and work around smart people . Internal politics and bureaucracy can be a turnoff. They're a little behind the curve with technology, and investing in their employees growth.

I worked at Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

You are right in the heart of health policy and business. The people are incredibly friendly, and can teach you so much. Incredibly fast paced, you will have a great time.

    Cons

The only con I could possibly think of is that often times everyone gets SO busy that as an intern, you find yourself a little lost.

    Pros

The company has great opportunities for those who are willing to work very hard to move forward in their careers.

    Cons

No matter how long, hard or dedicated you were for the company you will always be considered a number never forget that.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You are only as good as the people that work for you. Truly invest in listening to your employees and not putting on the act of pretending to care. You will be amazed at how much change you will see in the work you get back.

    Pros

Salary, Paid Time Off, Tuition Reimbursement

    Cons

Poor leadership, Bed Bugs, Top heavy, not enough support staff, outsourcing everything. o Directors who don't know how to lead and then blame staff as the scapegoats.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Wake Up!! Talk to your employees, treat people fairly, stop running a sweat shop - people need to have a life outside of Horizon. Stop outsourcing service and IT to people who do not care and can't speak English.

Within Strategic Services, it is the ultimate training ground to learn how to play, or fall victim to, political games

I worked at Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

A number of staff members are incredibly smart and wonderful to work with. This can be a good environment to learn about the insurance industry at a high level (not at an operational level, but from a theoretical standpoint).

    Cons

People stay because the culture in Strategic Services (management?) convinces them that they are truly not smart enough to do anything else. Low self esteem permeates this division. This is coupled with the fact that many (but not all) managers through SVPs will not give you real feedback. Leadership truly does pick their favorites and let's them shine (and protects them along the way). The rest are headed nowhere at a nice and slow pace. This is not a place to grow your career quickly. A lot of bad work habits are developed and cultivated here that will not do you any favors in any other company or industry. This is in no way an action-oriented organization (at least in Strategic Services) so if you are looking for real work, real results and real accountability, you should look elsewhere.

    Pros

Excellent pay and benefits. A liberal amount of PTO and paid vacations. You simply have to plan ahead. A wise person won't use all of their PTO as soon as they get it.

    Cons

You stay busy but that is what you are supposed to do in a professional environment.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Sr. Management does have the knack of micro-managing and it trickles down from the top.
