I worked at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Excellent benefits, healthy environment, family type atmosphere, beautiful campus, friendly SMT's, diverse atmosphere.

    Cons

Parking, lack of flexibility in customer service, highly stressful, always freezing in building

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Network Operations should be given a complete overhaul! (Director, managment, supv) The job that is typically required completion by one person should be a two person job. This dept has a HIGH turnaround!

I have been working at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Work life balance, flexibility, good benefits, good pay, great people

    Cons

Needs more focus on accountability, needs more communication and collaboration between departments, gives impression that the company values tenure over talent

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You have to hire and work with the best to become the best. Place more emphasis and value into keeping the great employees, a team is only as good as its weakest link

I have been working at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana

    Pros

The pay is decent and they have a lot of perks for improved health and becoming active and fit.

    Cons

Parking is awful unless you get there 30-45 before your shift. I usually walk about 2.5 miles per day just getting to and from the car. You cannot miss any days during your initial training for 90 days. Once you have time to use for PTO, it is very hard to use as they don't approve time off. I've been there 6 months and none of my days have been approved. The PTO is approved based on call volume. If it is Monday, they limit the amount of hours the call center has to use for PTO. If you haven't been there for a long time, your request is placed at the bottom and usually denied. If you want days off, you usually just have to call in and acquire points. Your schedule automatically changes after training and you get the late shift until you can bid on a better shift and that takes several months. If you have children, you have to have a huge support system of you work here, because there is no flexibility. Your lunch and your breaks are generated by a system, so some days you go to lunch at 11 and some days 12:30. You have to check your schedule every day.

I have been working at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana

    Pros

Certain departments of the organization work in collaboration with one another and it's obvious. If you can report to work and complete "task" all day, without sharing ideas and best practices, you will most likely do well.

    Cons

Leadership is opposed to listening to new ideas, or better yet listening at all. Company wide, there seems to be a true lack of respect for employees voice (noted in survey results).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

With the vast changes to the industry know that people now have choices. By ignoring the voice of the people who work for your company, eventually it will affect the service you provide to your customer. Listen to people rather than assume what you are being told by managers and/or directors is always correct.
