I have been working at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Rotation Program Decent Work Life Balance Solid Study Program Interesting Projects Growth

    Cons

Would be nice if they offered salary increases with exams instead of just bonuses. BCBSTX's study program is still very competitive though.

I have been working at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

This company will develop and set a person up for retirement - Additionally, the professional environment is a huge plus.

    Cons

The only cons of this company - sometimes you may only promote to a limit and not be able to promote any higher depending on the area of expertise.

    Advice to Management

This is a great company to work for to develop your management skills.

I have been working at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Wonderful place to work. Team members are like family and organization really wants the very best for its employee.

    Cons

None that I can think of right now. Maybe it does exist but I do not have any downside to write about now.

    Pros

Good benefits; respectful treatment by management. Family atmosphere, many people from same families work for company. Low turnover.

    Cons

Instability of healthcare industry, nowadays! Sluggish, behind the times on their computer systems, slow to change, lots of inertia and bureaucracy.

    Advice to Management

Embrace the new healthcare laws and get out in front! Spin off some of your components instead of centralizing...too much overlap and territory fighting going on.

    Pros

Great flexiblity with your work schedule, and good performance can lead to the oppurtunity to work from home. The benefits are excellent, medical, dental, vision, 401(k), pension, 18+ days of paid time off plus holidays, and tutiton assistance of up to $5400 a year. The company puts a lot of money into training so they give you as many resources as they can to help you suceed. I haven't heard of any non-salaried employees being laid off.

    Cons

I'm not going to lie, the work is boring and very tedious, but you are well compensated for it. Salary and management positions do not come open often in the Abilene location, so the competetion is high for a promotion in that area. If you put in the time and effort you can easily move into some higher paying hourly positions though. Also, there is a lot of promotion oppurtunity if you are willing to move to another location. There can be quite a bit of required overtime in peak months.

I worked at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Decent pay and lots of opportunities for overtime. Very good at training you and preparing you as much as possible.

    Cons

Upper management makes a lot of changes for the "good of the company" without much regard to the employees.

I have been working at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good management support. Relaxed work environment. Very professional and diverse employees with amazing training and learning opportunities and resources. Good benefits for higher education pursuing employees as they provide education assistance and excellent reference online materials.

    Cons

Very slow promotion and low pay rate. Its better to get experience somewhere else, then apply and bargain for a good starting salary rather than waiting for raise and annual salary increase. So apparently new fresh graduates getting in will end up working in extreme low salary than comparable market companies possibly causing tendency to find jobs elsewhere.

    Advice to Management

Pay for IT professionals better or at least competitive as compared to other companies in market. Presumably targeting a low pay rate doesn't ultimately morally boost the employees to stay within the company for a long time.
