Great people to work with

Campus Police Officer (Current Employee)
Overland Park, KS

I have been working at Blue Valley Unified School District full-time for more than 5 years

ProsFamily orientated, pretty good benefits, and work hours. The people you work with are the best and they really care about you.

ConsNo pay raises, no merit raises, if is hard to make a living on one income with this job. The salary is not enough to sustain an individual let alone a family. Unless you are a teacher getting a higher education does nothing for you but put you in debt.

Advice to Senior ManagementNo available upward movement unless you are a teacher

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

Grossly Underpaid, Not Valued

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at Blue Valley Unified School District full-time for more than a year

ProsGreat people to work with, co-workers supportive and positive. I work in the District Office.

ConsHorridly underpaid, never give raises (co-workers have not gotten a raise in over 5 years), never even given the courtesy of being interviewed for positions applied for, even within my own department.

Advice to Senior ManagementPay your staff what they are worth. You have or will lose 2 out of 3 in my department this month due to low pay.

Good school district to work for

Teacher (Former Employee)
Overland Park, KS

I worked at Blue Valley Unified School District full-time for more than a year

ProsI worked as a teacher for Blue Valley for one year. It has a ton of resources, highly motivated students, decent pay for public school teachers, and the particular school I worked at had a great sense of collegiality and collaboration.

ConsThere is a definite sense of entitlement from students and their families. Administrators expect you to uphold the "Blue Valley standards", which are excellent, but don't always know how to help you do that.

Advice to Senior ManagementDon't just set high expectations, but make sure the people working for your district really know how to realize the results you want.

Mostly positive yet very low pay-scale compared to local districts and a top-down approach that stifles building Admin.

Teacher (Current Employee)
Overland Park, KS

I have been working at Blue Valley Unified School District

Pros-Prestigious
-Decent amenities
-Excellent communication
-Building level Administrators
-Competent/caring colleagues
-Community involvement

Cons-District level Administration
-Poor technology
-Not many opportunities for growth/programs outside of business partners
-Handful of bizarre parents/students
-Poor social-work program
-Lowest pay-scale & "negotiated contract" in metro
-Abuse of power by certain administrators/teachers
-Lack of input/opportunity in materials & resources

Advice to Senior ManagementMake this a place teachers are fiscally valued and rewarded. Allow programs that seek to involve students and parents that aren't currently involved. Direct more attention to technology access and training at all buildings. Focus more on meaningful professional development where multiple professionals are involved-not merely one district level specialist. Get rid of early release days (they are a pain for students/staff/parents) and direct attention to more than just test-scores.

No respect or support for teachers

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at Blue Valley Unified School District

ProsA teachers schedule will give you a lot of time off, including all major hollidays. The teachers are mostly caring and support each other.

ConsBuilding and district leadership is questionable and too much emphasis is placed on assessment scores. Support is questionable from district and building leaders and the teachers are not supported by their administrators. Image is far too important.

Advice to Senior ManagementSupport the teachers, be more visible, eliminate fear of not earning AYP by downplaying the assessments importance, hold all teachers, administrators, parents, and students to the same fair standard (don't play favorites).

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend
