Pros
Company does not keep the usual "watchful eye". Phone, email, internet, printing, etc.
Cons
No loyalty and will terminate with no valid reasons other than lack of sales.
Pros
Great employees who care about their business and their customer base
Cons
Upper management is to top heavy
Pros
Bluelinx is a strong company with mant smart people in the driver's seat to ensure we make it through this difficult economy.
Cons
Bluelinx is a company controlled from the top. We have ideas but not always resources to follow through with them.
Advice to Senior Management
There are some great minds on board here. Have faith in the employees to do a good job and make sound decisions.
Pros
Car allowance, autonomy, benefits, and respectful management.
Cons
Too big to turn the ship quickly.
Advice to Senior Management
Help close more business...
Pros
Hard-working people who care about their customers and their employees. The best at what they do, and recognized often by customers and suppliers alike for the value they can offer.
Cons
Currently in a very difficult industry sector that traditionally has minimized the value distributors bring to the supply chain participants
Advice to Senior Management
Invest for the future and capture market share. This is a company uniquely positioned to add value to customers, suppliers and employees.
Pros
The hours are reasonable and there is an emphasis on maintaining life outside of work.
The benefits are fair and there is a very friendly and familiar atmosphere.
Cons
Opportunities to advance seem somewhat limited. Advanced degrees are not necessary nor are they encouraged. The business model seems dated and moderately unstable.
Advice to Senior Management
Development doesn't seem to be a key concern amongst middle management. Senior management needs to be more involved with hiring, recruiting, and development amongst sales people.
Pros
BlueLinx is a big small company. It is big in span, but small in the way management know most employees, seems to care and listen to the employees. The higher ups are much more approachable and visable than other large companies where I have worked. Most management have been promoted from within, there will be room to grow as the market returns.
Cons
The industry has been in a downward spiral. There have been few raises, although I did get a bonus that was a suprise last year. 401 k match has been stopped and there have not been enough promotions. In the last few months itseems liek there have been some promotions, management is trying to be in front of the rebound.
Advice to Senior Management
Be aggressive, empower the people. we haveteh best people in the industry. Continue to communicate to the employees directly, and make management changes faster. Some say the management has cut to many people, I think they missed some at most levels and should cut the employees that are not positive.
Pros
Reasonable work hours, pleasant people and good working environment. Rewards for job well done. Close to Park Meadows for shopping. Technolog well supported
Cons
Cube farm - no offices in whole building. Small break room. Building only 1/2 occupied. Sales down, employees somewhat frustrated & de-motivated.
Advice to Senior Management
Staff for success - stop cutting wages & incentives - look for ways to build sales so you can pay top wages again! Refocus on sales (salespeople report that they spend little time on selling and too much time on tasks, Managers spend even less time selling or driving sales!)
Pros
It is a good starter job, and is hard to get fired from this job. I knew a sales guy who was an outside sales rep. Even after he got a DUI he still wasn't fired. He was brought back inside and he still missed work and wasn't fired.
Cons
Little to no growth. Upper management is not concerned with employees, but only the bottom line. They have a hard time motivating employees.
Advice to Senior Management
Understand that the current model in in effective and try something new. There is a reason why there is high turnover in your company.
Pros
certain management made it all worth the while and let achievers do so.
Cons
too many of the great leadership has gone, and the morale now is too pathetic.
Advice to Senior Management
beware who else is left. Morale is low so many are looking if not have already left.
