I worked at Bluenotes full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Lots of structure and routines make it easy to learn how to run a fast-paced store and over years of practice I could almost do it on my own with very little direction. upper management check in regularly to keep you on track. Lots of opportunities for advancement as I was promoted 4 times while working for Bluenotes

    Cons

Although I did receive promotions and special acknowledgement, I had to constantly be telling my District Manager how well I was doing in order to get raises and promotions. "the squeaky wheel gets the grease" in this case. it would be nice to have someone higher up reward you with a raise without asking for it. Once you've reached a manager level, there is very little room for career growth unless you live in the GTA where their head office is located and different types of positions are available.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

thank your long term employees for their hard work and dedication to the company and they will feel proud and recognized. also, a management meeting at the very least annually would be helpful to new managers looking for support.

I worked at Bluenotes full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Some decent people to work with.

    Cons

In my time working for Bluenotes I came to realize both the upper management and provincial management in the company expects too much from they're store staff. The sales staff get paid minimum wage and as a result have no motivations to perform proper work ethic (understandable), and the hard working employees only get recognized for their effort with more work and expectations. After conversing with one of my colleagues I also discovered the company does not believe in raises. The only time you will ever get a raise here is if you get promoted to something higher on the food chain and even then the wage is meager. Save the effort and apply to a company that will appreciate your work ethic.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Provide raises to promote a higher work ethic in the work place and compensate the hard working employees by letting them grow within the company.

I have been working at Bluenotes part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

This location had great training, fun employees, good discounts, and was a very easy job in general. Bluenotes is the perfect place to work if you're looking to start out in retail.

    Cons

The mall this store was located at was often very dead. The business was very poor and was gradually getting worse. The company made very little money so the employees didn't get too many hours.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Create a stronger bond with your employees!
