Current Employee – been working at BoA Merrill Lynch
Pros – Paycheck and benefits, bottom line, you need a job to support yourself and your family..
Cons – If you do not have the right connections with the right people you are just a pee on.
Advice to Senior Management – The review process is forced , unfair and not a true measuring tool of your talent when your working with diabolical crafty people 1 and 2 levels above you.

Current Employee – been working at BoA Merrill Lynch
Pros – A potentially great franchise in the banking business going forward with a firm that has every product and service to offer clients both individual and institutional.
Cons – Management that seems content to "muddle through" the last several years, progress in bringing together BoA and Merrill Lynch business and processes leaves a lot to be desired.

Former Employee – worked at BoA Merrill Lynch
Pros – Good pay and benefits
Excellent work/life balance
Some extremely talented engineers
Pretty productive development environment
Management is eager to please
Relaxed culture
Global company
Cons – Overly bureaucratic when it comes to getting new tools and libraries approved
Recent fascination with building a highly proprietary development environment (custom database, IDE, UI toolkit, job scheduler) which is being forced on people
Company is very large and feels like it
People come and go too quickly, you're considered a veteran if you're there more than 2 years
Big talent gaps between individuals
Developers are too isolated from the users
Advice to Senior Management – Focus on attracting and retaining top talent. Provide better business domain training for technologists. Emphasize delivering quality systems and teach people how to do it. Create better talent development through peer review and technical mentorship.

Current Employee – been working at BoA Merrill Lynch
Pros – Exposure to a top notch investment banking organization. Work environment is very flexible. Management is very supportive and doesn't look to pin the blame, just resolve the issues.
Cons – The company is looking to lay off over 30,000 employees over the next couple of years. So a lot of people are on edge.
Advice to Senior Management – Treat employees as an asset and reward them as such. Much of the issues the bank has seems to be coming from the Countrywide acquisition, so dump the unit and don't punish the employees for mistakes made by senior management.

Current Employee – been working at BoA Merrill Lynch
Pros – Excellent Management, very capable colleagues who are usually happy to help, salary for trainee is great but as your salary increases your hurdles increase, very well respected name brand
Cons – Be more candid about how corner office producers gained success rather than tell us it is through hard work. Most big producers either have a wealthy, prestigious family member or inherited a book of business.

Current Employee – been working at BoA Merrill Lynch
Pros – Industry leader, well recognized name, generally strong compensation.
Cons – Arrogance of many managers, firm generally treats employees as if they should be honored to have the privledge to work their. Culture clash between BofA and Merrill is comical and still ongoing, can be a distraction to mission success. BofA is the walmart of finance when it comes to employee benefits.
Advice to Senior Management – Integrate the ML and BofA merger more professionally or spin off the ML business.
