I worked at BoardVantage full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Good benefits and decent pay but not at par with bay area companies. Its a good company for a fresher or a junior developer. But don't expect to improve your technical skills. Still a profit making company and hope it remains in near future.

    Cons

No processes. All management does is look at the features of other competitors and enforce implementing them. Most of the great technical resources and technical managers left the organization recently, due to lot of politics in the top management. There is hardly any co-ordination. Lot of politics and no professionalism.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more open and transparent, I believe you learnt the lesson when all the four VPs quit recently.

    Pros

-Recreational rooms for breaks and drinks
    -Company hosts trips and events
    -Helpful / knowledgeable colleagues

    Cons

    -Badly needs a development process
-CTO changes product requirements on a whim

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The CTO and upper management needs to get their requirements ready before handing out the task to the developers. I know this is not uncommon, but not making the architecture flexible enough the first time just decreases the maintainability for future changes in the system. A lot of hours are wasted doing things that were not even considered.

I worked at BoardVantage full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Loads of experienced people to learn from esp. the CTO/ director of engineering
The high level of management will evaluate your interest and distribute the work accordingly.
Ample opportunities to learn things from experts
Good recreation enviornment incase you are tired
    Pool competitions and exciting activities
Experts in the industry to work with

    Cons

    No process
    No organized workflow
    Fast deliverables
No work time scheduled, during release , you have to work for 14 hours straight.
Team leads do not know how to work with their peers/ juniors.
Lack of expertise in-case of team leads and overcontrolling nature of team lead( sometimes)
Loads of politics to deal with

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please hire someone who is technically sound team lead, so that it may not lead to other engineers quitting the team. Inexperienced team leads / unqualified team leads ( who dont even possess a Engineering degree) feel intimidated and leads to peer rivalry.
Please avoid that situation in future.

    Pros

-A really solid iPad product on the upswing and being accepted by several big name boardrooms.
    -Decent pay package with benefits

    Cons

    - An unwelcoming and closed culture
    - Negative team culture
    - Cubicles, the world has moved onto open desk environments
    - Fairly archaic software engineering processes.
    - Flex

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Seriously, work towards getting your new hires felt welcomed and giving them direction. Empower them by giving them access to the code base on the first day, not a week after. Do not let them be unoccupied for weeks on an end coz that kills enthusiasm and ensures they aren't grasping what you are doign.

Badly run company with great people and a product with great potential if they'd get out of their own way.

I worked at BoardVantage full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

The people at BoardVantage are great. Very talented, very nice and, depending on the department they are in, they can be a happy bunch. The iPad product is good.

    Cons

Bad upper management. CEO doesn't talk to underlings, doesn't take suggestions, thinks he knows it all. Other upper management nice but under CEO's thumb, overworked and not open to changes or anything new. Desktop version of product so-so. Sales team not supported with correct processes and not listened to. Need to invest in growth but aren't open to doing what's needed.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop taking everything so seriously, Mr. CEO! You are managing with old school attitude in a new world. Listen to others. Stop micromanaging all of the progress out of the company. Stop hiring and firing people on a whim. Be consistent and hire more support at the management level. Your people can be trusted, or why hire them? Utilize a more horizontal approach and you will see better results. Stop hiding in your office and only talking to your top 2 execs!

    I worked at BoardVantage full-time

    Pros

BoardVantage is a company where talent flourishes among middle management and their personal reports which have held numerous prominent positions at Fortune 100 companies, and have utilized their talents to help the company gain a competitive edge. The atmosphere is casual and the people get along well together. The company’s success is a prime example of right time to market, with the iPad contributing much to its growth.

    Cons

Unfortunately, the success of the company is stymied by the poor leadership of its upper management. The CEO spends his days performing Quality Assurance while searching to replace his recently fired Marketing Manager. The VP of Customer Support and Sales has a conflicting job description, and is too busy to meet with her reports. The CTO makes impulsive and rash decisions, and then casts blame while receiving no accountability. Under any other executive team, the company would have either already been acquired or have celebrated their IPO. If you seek to work beside ambitious and intriguing people, but can stomach learning of your demotion and being chastised for all your mistakes on the company’s intranet, then BoardVantage is hiring.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Directed only to the executive staff… show you value your team and make time for them. While your decisions help the company move forward, it is their work that keeps the doors open by gaining and retaining customers. Appreciate their work rather than focusing on what could have been accomplished better. Encourage rather than crippling and negating all efforts.
