Current Employee – been working at Boart Longyear full-time for more than a year
Pros – Schedules are very flexible, pay is in line with industry standards. Everybody works off of laptops which allows for some telecommuting. Depending on what department you are in, there is plenty of work to do with realistic time frames.
Cons – No consistancy. There is a definite cycle of hiring and laying off. Management is very "old school" so don't expect to move up unless you become part of the good old boys club. Upper management and middle management do not have the same goals, or at least do not execute to the same goals. I am in a department that is extremely starved for work, I am bored. When I approach my bosses about this issue I get a standard "things will pick up" answer. I wouldnt recommend you plan on a career with Boart, but it is a decentf to pay the bills while you look for a career position.
Advice to Senior Management – Communicate goals through the entire company and measure them accordingly. Move away from the old school structure and review your internal hiring methods.

Current Employee – been working at Boart Longyear full-time for more than 8 years
Pros – They will entice talents with a little higher pay, even relocate you, but will lay you off sooner. Hire and fire strategy, nepotism, highly unstable company.
Cons – An experienced employees with two Masters degrees and certifications, good attitude to work and smart working was laid off over lazy employees with no bachelors. I keep my option open to exit the coy, until then I am cleaning the mess and kissing ass!
Advice to Senior Management – You job is not safe.... the board is after you!

Former Employee – worked at Boart Longyear
Pros – Overworked and under-respected from the top down, but liked the people at the local level who act like a team and are pretty great.
Cons – Don't expect any loyalty or appreciation, no matter how hard you work. Hours are long, long long and the recognition is almost nil.
Advice to Senior Management – Take a few examples from the prior CEO and put the enjoyment back into working for BLY
