Pros
Bobs has been a great home to me for 7 years. The growth potenial is outstanding! Growing company, adding jobs daily. Highly recommend for new college grads. Manager In Training program is world class.
Cons
Salary is a bit below fair market value. However, they compensate with work/home life balance. No long hours, fantastic senior leadership team.
Advice to Senior Management
Just keep swimming !! We are a money making brand, with growth potential. Lets open up some great restaurants in great locations. Time to spend some money!
Pros
time off is easy to get.
pay is decent.
easy work.
Cons
people easily get away with not doing their job.
Advice to Senior Management
Maintain a stricter enviroment.
Pros
It is a good stepping stone, great place to train as a restaurant manager
Cons
stressful
too much paper work
company going in the wrong direction
advancement are almost impossible unless your an idiot or lazy
Advice to Senior Management
change company back to where it was.
Pros
You receive a pretty decent employee discount while working and even when you're not, most of the people there are really pleasant, and the people that choose to eat at Bob Evans are generally sweet and polite.
Cons
I had decent availability but, as a high school senior with AP courses and sports practices, they weren't very happy with giving me any hours and you could tell with how they treated me.
Advice to Senior Management
Be sure to communicate to employees what you expect of them.
Pros
managers are nice, 50% discount on food while working, good hours. the guests are very nice, of course some are not. wish that every guest knew how much a server was paid ($2.65/hr) and would tip better, especially if their experience was a great one, which I assure they do. wish that 20% gratuity was automatic on the bill so that servers were compensated better for their hard work.
Cons
There needs to be better communication between management and management and employees. Needs to be more praise for a well done job. where's the advertising??? I work in a tourist town that steers more towards local businesses, i don't hear any advertising for bob evans on the radio, don't see any in the papers, or on the television. very slow season because we don't have any snow!!
Advice to Senior Management
You need better communication skills, "open door" policy doesn't exist. If you want to keep your hardworking employees you need to give them better pay, and for servers definitely schedule them for the busier time of the shift and the best section. Definitely need to motivate your employees to do their job correctly and need better follow through.
Pros
All positions are very low paying but if you are a server, the table turn over rate is so fast that if you work hard and fast to get your customers in and out, you can make a lot of money during the peak breakfast hours.
Cons
Management was very rude and unprofessional. Not willing to listen to anything lower employees have to say and always quick to place blame and tell employees what they messed up and ignoring the good efforts. Going above managements head does not help because corporate will just ignore the little guy and inform the restaurant manager that they have an employee "telling" on them. Oh and if you ever quit, it will never be on good terms, no matter what the reason they will always put you down as terminated/ not giving leaving notice and not open for rehire.
Advice to Senior Management
Dont treat employees and former employees like they dont matter. always treat everyone as if you are there to give them the best experience whether they are there to eat or there wanting a moment of your time to ask questions or look for employment. Employees have families that eat out too you know, and employee word of mouth is just as good (or bad) as the customers.
Pros
customers and employees
helps pay my bills
serves safe food to public
strict food handling
one of the cleanest restaurnat to work at
Cons
Steve Davis the CEO. People at head office are clueless of what it takes to run the restaurants, if they came out of the office and really seen what goes on in the restaurants they would make different changes. Makes up unreal goals for employees to achive. Makes it impossiable for managers to get bonuses. Pays a company to inspect the restaurant to make sure that they fail the inspections. Inspectors change the rules as they see fit at the time to make restaurant fail. Threatens management jobs and a daily basis with scorecards, steritech, p&l. Spends money on stupid stuff and then wants restaurant to pay for thier mistakes in judgement. E-mails on top of E-mails telling one thing then changing it, someone tells you one thing and then someone else tells you to do it different. Keeps staff confused of what they want do or how they want it done unwilling to teach you how to get it done they way they think it should be done, just tells you to do it or else lose your job. Very stressfull on daily basis. If you don"t make the set goals better be a good reason because it couldn't be because the uppermanagement tells you to cut all cost to make the profit goal. cut staff so you can not give good service to customers. Raise prices for smaller portions - upper managment dosen't have to deal with the customer face to face. They just sit there to find ways to make it harder to do your job. Wants restaurnat to be like a drive threw. get them in and out turn them tables more money more money thats the only thing they care about.
Insurance is a joke. charge you more for less coverage every year, with the amount of staff that they have you would think that they could get a better insurance plan. If you get hurt at work don't use workers comp because thats a sure fire way to get fired. Only thing that upper management are looking out for is the bottom $ line - make sure they get thier bonuses and that share holders get money. forget the customers and staff. Make the money no matter what it takes.
Advice to Senior Management
Get real on what it takes to run the restaurants. stop wasting money on stupid stuff whats wrong with the headquarters besides it is to far from Steve Davis house. Pay the people what they are worth. Get a clue of what is going on at the restaurnt level. go work at one for a week or so really see what is going on. Get off the computer and get it together.
Pros
Nice co workers, other Managers, and loyal guest.
Cons
Not paid enough for the work you have to perform.
Advice to Senior Management
Just keep working hard and do your best and everything will be great.
Pros
Great co-workers and customers
You will get many hours if you really ask for them
Good opportunity to get promoted
Pay is okay for hostesses and back of house employees.
Really wonderful part-time job for high school and college students
Overall nice atmosphere
Cons
Upper management has a tendency to make decisions and not make lower level employees aware
Very illogical rules are set in place, sometimes without much notice
Uniforms are so bland (white shirt, black pants). "Upgraded" to wearing polos, but it would have been nice if they could be blue or red or some color OTHER than white.
Pay is not fair at all for servers. I realize that tips are taken into account in their wages, but still, people are not very generous all the time in their gratutities.
The benefits package is way too expensive for what it offers. It could be worse, obviously, but could be much better too.
Advice to Senior Management
Overall, I really have enjoyed my time working here. I'm only part time and a student, so I don't really see all of the shady things that go on around the restauant. However, I know many of the full-time employees and they are very dissatisfied with upper management. Too many things are kept in the dark from the hourly employees. Mangement does not listen to employees whatsoever and there is no loyalty. If an employee has a complaint about a store manager and he or she goes to the district manager, there is the great likelyhood that that district manager will turn right back around and tell the store manager what that employee said. All the hourly employees are one big family, but it's very hard to trust any of the management as of late.
Pros
Friendly employees, great working environment
Cons
Strict rules, pay is not so great
Advice to Senior Management
Need to do more to motivate employees
